Diesel noise in low revs

Morning everyone...I'm having doubts with the noise that comes from my engine when I go through the gears in low revs around 2000 to 4000rpm, for instance I'm at a set of traffic lights soon as I pull off the noise isn't there until I put my foot down slightly to gain speed, the engine then sounds like a diesel so I change gear and accelerate and it's the same thing BUT once I've picked up speed around 40 to 50mph the noise isn't there my mileage on the car is exactly 54601 I've looked under the hood while the car is idling and the cam belt looks fine I will have it replace at 60000 miles....has anyone any ideas?

Could be low oil pressure at low revs maybe and not getting enough oil round or just low oil? As you rev oil pressure goes up and noise goes! You checked the oil etc?

I've checked the oil and it's ok so I'm still puzzled as to what it could be :( but I'll let my mechanic have a test drive and see if he recognises the fault
