Does anyone add anything to the tank for better performance and fuel economy?

If so what's a good one to recommend?

I see that using this additive (Millers Diesel Power Sport 4) states it’s good for use on cars with dpfs.

I wondered if anyone who has used this additive on there FR TDI and noticed if the dpf regeneration occurs less often ?

Me,

I used to use it every now & then to help clean & lube the system, just need a new bottle.

I belive some HALFRUADS stock it now too.

Ive used millers almost since my FR TDI was new and have only seen the DPF light once after a whole weekend of pottering around which quickly cleared. I only notice the regen very very rarely in fact it comes as a shock when i start it up and it grumbles!

I wouldnt say it improves things that much but a couple of months ago I didnt bother for a couple of fill-ups and I did notice it wasnt quite as smooth and I didnt get quite as many miles to the tank either.

I think its a better bet to use normal supermarket Diesel + Millers than the premium Diesels, but then some will probably dissagree.

Secondly wondered if it would also help remapped FR TDIs

.... and me I'd had a few issues with the DPF. Spursmaddave recommended it and I've had no problems since. ;)

Total waste of money

On what grounds?

If its the increased performance I would agree

If its increased MPG I'd be inclined to agree

If its cleaner running I'd disagree as I posted previously since using the Millers I haven't seen the DPF light and regeneration takes place less often than previous. Also I was using it on every tank full missed one and the car ran like a bag of spanners until I remembered to add the Millers

i agree i find that using redex loosens everything up might be in my head but i really believe that using a supplement is worth it

Petrol companies spend millions developing their fuels if they needed something else it would be in.These additives are a rip off and not needed.

Well personally if the car runs cleaner and it appears it does then I shall continue to spend £1.20 per tank full (hardly breaking the bank) to maintain the longevity of the fuel system and hopefully as I approach the end of my warranty the numerous sensors etc.

The fuel supplement debate is likely to rumble on but I know which side of the fence I will firmly be stood.

still in my opinion there is a reason for using supplements if there wasn't then why do the big fuel companies produce two types of each fuel one advertised to add performance and one doesn't surely this is similiar to regular fuel with a supplement added?!?

Each to their own foxy, maybe when you spend £22k on an FR like Bigfoot did you need to watch the pennies :p

Just to throw in my pennies worth, I agree with Bigfoot, Although he isn't exactly subtle,
I have seen all these addidtives tested extensively on 5th Gear and also within Evo magazine and they both concluded, no performance or economy benefits.

With regards to the DPF faults, Ive now notched up 43,500 miles in 2 years in my Leon TDI FR, and Ive never had any faults or warning lights.
85 % of my mileage is motorway, so that could be a factor.

Although, on the subject of faults, my Airbag warning light is on again, thats the 3rd time.
On two previous occassions it has been the Steering wheel Airbag, then the passenger side Airbag, both have been replaced under Warranty.
I'm taking my car in tomorrow to have the latest Airbag fault diagnosed.

So back to the point, the addidtives according to 5th Gear and Evo don't work.
If anyone wants to throw away their money, then please throw it my way, I will use it to carry out further modifications to my car, although Im still paying off the Bank Manager for everything I have done so far.

Cheers

Additives

Accoring to automotive research diesel engines waste around 20 % of the fuel as it passes out of the exhaust unburnt. There are many additives on the market which claim to be able to reduce this however the forgoing establishs that the current products do not achieve this.

A french team is currently researching the effect of mixing petrol with diesel in an attempt to reduce this wastage, so perhaps one day we will see an additive that will do what it says on the tin, however if the French reasearch team comes up with a winning mix that does not trash your engine in the process, it will probably be available ready mixed from your local garage! :funk:
