5 and 3 door have a different exhaust , louder on the 290.
Space saver spare now standard.
Rear centre armrest - in 5 door anyway.
USB socket moved from glove box to centre cubby.
Differences in central display with information displayed.
May be others.

SC & 5 door have 0.1 bar of boost over mid range too

290 SC & 5 door have an additional 0.1 bar of boost over mid range over the 280 SC & 5 door. Max boost & output unchanged. The two silencer exhaust permits this, less back pressure. ST already had the exhaust & additional boost.

I have everything on that list on my 2016 model year 280 apart from #1.

The 290 5D and SC was the box deleted and the badges changed on a 2016 Cupra model. Nothing else changed apart from the price.

I did wonder, was comparing it to the 2014 280 I had. Starts to look like a bit of a pointless exercise , unless they had run out of 280 badges and 290 was a cheaper option... :D

I thought the only difference was the badge and silencer removal on 3 and 5 door. St already had silencer removed for weight saving.

The bhp figures appear to be just marketing as the ecu has been checked (280) and it was identical to the golf r ecu which is badged 300.

Depends . Black edition adds buckets which are heated, black and white alcantara.

I have a 280 5drs with rear centre arm rest & usb socket in centre cubby, also have the information display with al the gauges, so these things you are naming are not exclusive to the 290
The exhaust is though.

In terms of how they drive there is very little in it. I ran a 280 5dr manual from July 2014 for two years, replacing it with same spec 290 in July this year. The 280 was a great car, but to me at least the 290 feels marginally quicker mid range (you would probably need to compare them back to back to notice the difference). I also prefer the deeper exhaust note of the 290, and the occasional pops & bangs when I get a chance to rag it.
Either one would put a smile on your face, go for the colour and spec that you like most. Don't forget they are tyre sensitive too, the original Bridgestones on the 280 were poor, car was much better when I changed the fronts for Avons. The 290 came with P Zeros which seem ok so far.

As I said in a previous post, I was comparing a 14 plate 280 to the current 290. Clearly a lot of the changes happened throughout production of the 280, before it became a 290.

what i drove must've been a black edition... to be honest i didnt find the seat very "bucket" (no complaints just not bucket) but saying that ive never sat in the white and black seats!!

i cant wait to hand back my fr now  got over a year :hide:
