I have recently purchased a cupra tdi.
The drivers side headlight is marked so I am looking to replace it.
Can anybody tell me the differences if any between the cupra headlights and those fitted to other Ibiza models.
I am hoping to find one on eBay, but I need to know what to look out for.
Cheers.

From what I noticed when I bought some cupra headlights , they are fully black in the back of the light. My old lights (tdi Sport ones) where more a light grey

cupra lights are the same twin reflector ones found in most facelift ibiza's but with a slight difference only found on the cupra's. which is, the sidelight & indicator lens inside the light are slightly smoked compared to the normal ones, and the edge of the reflectors are smoked rather than just chrome like the mormal ones. ill put a pic for comparison up tomorrow as i have a cupra light in the garage at the min

Thanks a pic would be great. Il compare the light I'm getting off eBay with the existing.
Has anyone ever stripped the headlights down?
I only need to replace the lens of the light, so if the difference is really noticeable I may have a bash at splitting them and replacing the lens only.

If you have ever had to replace one of the headlights you will know that there are actually like 10 different varients of the dual headlight.

All with different tints etc, not noticable until you have one on oneside and another on the other side.

i'd be interested to know how if you manage to dismantle the light as a bulb has shattered in mine and i cant get the shards of class out without removing the lens but dont no how.

i've heard a few people warmed them up in the oven slightly to brake the seal

There's a thread about someone with a Mk2 Leon who customised his own lights to fit projectors and HID bulbs in. He 'baked' the lights to soften the glue and prise apart the lens from the rest of the housing and it worked really well.

I can't find the link for it now, if someone could remember it could be useful here.
I think it was approx. 120 degrees for 20 minutes.

I won't be attempting it just yet, the unit I bought from eBay has worse lens scratching than the existing.
Iv got the lights off and there is a very hard sealant, if I do attempt it I think il try gently warming using a heat gun.
On the hunt for another headlight now though!

This is to help those folk searching.. having taken a week to get Cupra headlight (dealer's parts list was wrong again!). For a 2005 Cupra tdi which had 6L2941005B (passenger side)they replaced it with 6L2941005N for £165. Might manage to get them at ebay partsdepot but doubtful as they are Cupra only fitment. Cheapo aftermarket ones from Depo in Taiwan for basic cars but you can buy a matching pair for price of one Valeo (OEM) version. The Seat headlights come complete with bulbs, motors etc. Valeo ones I am not sure. Depo ones you need to strip them out.

Type of headlights;
RHD only .. Left or Nearside or passenger & Right or Offside or driver
1. Single reflector on base models 09/2001 to 02/2006
Seat 6L2941023A Valeo 088235 & Seat 6L2941024A Valeo 088236
H4 single twin filament single bulb
2004 1.2 NS = 6L2941021A

2. Twin reflectors with silver background 09/2001 to 12/2006
Seat 6L2941019B Valeo 088231 & Seat 6L2941030B Valeo 08232
H7 + H7 single filament bulbs

3. Twin reflectors with dark background with bulb cover 01/2007 to 03/2007
Seat 6L2941029A Valeo 043343 & Seat 6L2941030A Valeo 043344
(dealer wrongly supplied this for 2005 Cupra) (£135+Vat=£162)
H7 + H3 single filament bulbs

4. Twin reflectors with dark background and No bulb cover 04/2007 to 06/2008
Seat 6L2941029M Valeo 043703 & Seat 6L2941030M Valeo 043704
H7 + H3 single filament bulbs

5. Twin reflectors with dark background with bulb cover AND smoked indicators/sidelights = CUPRA. No Valeo part listed.
2005 Cupra tdi = Seat 6L2941005B & 6L2941006B
June 2012 dealer = 6L2941005N & 6L2941006N (£135+Vat=£162)
VAG parts dealer says 6L2941751R replaces it but Seat do not!
H7 + H3 single filament bulbs

6. Separated Twin reflectors with dark background for Xenon/HID (not Cupra, with washers/levelling)
Seat 6L2941039A Valeo 088244 & Seat 6L2941040A Valeo 088245
D1S + H7 single + Xenon/HID with ignitor Seat 8E0907391A Valeo 088794

6L2941005 N superseded by 6L2941751R = twin 2006-2010 ??
Seat 6L2941023A Now 6L2941751M Now 6L2941002N ?

Valeo have 5 levels for RHD but no Cupra yet they are made by Valeo.
obturator = Shield in front of bulb
The twin headlights come in 3 types, silver, dark with bulb cover and dark without bulb cover. It is not grade of car but year that determines what you have? This also may explain issues with fitting longer HID bulbs that some folk have (I did mine with bulb covers and was OK).

By edge of reflectors he means look at the headlight from the side and the round tube that the reflectors are sat into, that you see from the side, are black shiny and not chrome shiny like other twin headlights.
