dipstick tube snapped..... :( sorry!!!

just changed a breather hose, and completely forgot to hold up my dipstick tube.. unfortunately if snapped!!!

stupid really after reading the many warnings on here :( sorry guys!

question is!!

i need the car tonight, can i drive it??

where can i get a new one and are they easy to fit??

As long as you still have oil pressure you can drive it I had to bode nine with silicon and had to chop it down to about 50 mm lol

Yea mine was snapped for ages but then it broke in three places and I was worried I'd lose presure so I bodged it ;) lol but you should be ok as long as it will still go in you need it plugged or it will spit oil out ;)

lol done exactly the same thing. i got a piece of hose slid it over the broken bit attached to the car the slid the snapped bit inside the hose till they met, that was about a year ago and havnt changed it since :)

just bought one off that link above for a massive amount of 3nhalf quid! fooking hell hahaha :) (thanks for the link)

it looks like it goes quite far down.. how do i go about unclipping it, and clipping in the new one?

there are Two 10mm bolts on the metal plate that your dipstick goes through and also 2 allen key bolts that go into the manifold if you remove these you should be able to slide the pipework at the front out of the way (only about an inch needed)

(the 2 10mm bolts hold a plastic pipe in place and is difficult to move the plate up with it attached - or at least it was on mine)

then carefully pull the whole of the metal plate upward toward you and you will see where the dipstick guide and the metal plate slot together.

once the plate is free from the dipstick guide remove the old dipstick (being carefull not to drop bits of broken plastic down the hole) replace it with the new one and job done.
