Does anyone have a DTUK on an FR 150?

Hi guys, considering getting the £400+ DTUK box for my FR TSI 150. Stats suggest a 35 bhp increase, 60NM torque increase and up to 20% extra mpg...

DTUK themselves have already advised the mpg of course comes down to driving style, and 20% may be achievable, but the average is 8-12% in most reported cases.

I want to know if anyone has one, and if so I would like to know how much difference there is to the car in terms of performance and efficiency...

Thanks in advance

I have had my DTUK box for around 6 months now. I have the 1.4TSI 125PS. I don't know the exact figure increase but based on an OBD2 app it was showing around 175HP and 250NM. To be honest on a 1.4 I wasn't looking for an increase in figures, just a bigger smile on my face. You can notice the difference, especially how the power is delivered. I have it on 1+3 setting and it is brutal. It pulls from 1500rpm all the way to redline in every gear. It just makes the car feel a lot more ballsy and makes overtaking a breeze whether it's at 30mph or 70mph.

Of course you can also turn it down for a more steady power delivery (I bought the bluetooth app).

I couldn't recommend one more to be honest with you.

Thanks David, that is extremely helpful!

This is the kind of information I was looking for. A real user experience rather than information from the website...

In addition to the above then, whats your MPG like now? And would you say its worth paying the extra for the app, or is it just as easy to pop the bonnet in order to change things?

Not a problem! To be honest I haven't noticed my MPG increase nor decrease. Obviously when it is on the sport setting and I am planting my foot every opportunity I have it does go down but it would in that case without the box. Normal, daily, door to door driving, no difference at all.

Regarding the app. When I first bought the box I was playing around with the settings quite a lot and of course it was a lot more convenient to just pull over and change the setting on the app. However, once you find your preferred setting you'll probably not change it for a while. I found 1+3 was my favorite and it hasn't been changed since about August (ill probably change it down during winter due to the wet/ greasy roads etc). If you would prefer the convenience and don't mind paying the extra money, get it. Otherwise, its not really going to be a miss after the first couple of weeks. Without that app it is still very easy to change the settings on the actual box but just less convenient.

I hope this helps!

My opinion would be: save the money on the app, get yourself a full tank.

Haha I like this advice, it's almost like you read my mind.

I'm doing my best to drive as efficiently as possible at the moment. I have gone from a Mk7 Golf GTI (zero efficiency) to the 150 FR, and im not going to lie I find that the FR is so much more fun to drive! Because your expectations are less, yet it still blows you away with how tight and responsive it is. So I am finding it hard to not boot it at every given chance, to maximize the better MPG haha!

In terms of the settings, are they pre-defined and then its just a case of you selecting what is best for you? How do they work?

Yeah sounds about right haha.

The settings are pre-set. Essentially you have 3 settings, Sport, Dynamic and Efficiency. You select one of 3 and you have an option to then select -3, -2, -1, 0, +1, +2, +3.

It seems these are so you can chose the type of power delivery. I find -3 is very gradual whereas +3 is a massive surge of power between certain RPM. Pictures below are from the app. Without the app you would just press the buttons on the box itself.

I've had one on my Mk3 150FR for a couple of months now and the only thing I struggle with is keeping traction. On some settings you'll get wheelspin in 3rd gear but even on 1+1 it pulls like a train when required, I would go as far as to say it transforms the car

You'll see a very optimistic MPG figure on certain settings which is clearly incorrect but will give you probably 3-5% increase in real-world consumption.

I did get a CEL on almost any map used after a few days which was annoying (always cleared by changing the 'map' and restarting the car) but since a recent service and code clearance this issue has gone away so far.
