Sorry if there's a better place to post this but I'm new around here so bear with me please:) I received my leon a few weeks ago so I've only driven 800km. I wanted to know if once in a while I rev it hard will it damage the engine ? Also while driving everyday I never exceed the 4rpm but today I wanted to show my friends the car so I put sports mode on and kept accelerating from 0 to 60km/h a couple of times . Probably won't do it again but will it damage my engine ? Thank you

It will be fine.
Modern engines don't require much running in, at 800kms yours is fine to drive hard and a few max rpm bursts won't do any harm.
If you are concerned keep an eye on the oil temperature, if it gets above 120C then go easy for a bit.

How long does it usually take to warm Oil up and what temperature are we talking at?

I wait until the oil’s up to 90c before driving enthusiastically (if road / traffic / weather conditions permit) - I always have the oil temperature displayed on the MFD in my VW. With the amount of traffic and speed restrictions where my normal driving takes me, there’s very little opportunity to drive enthusiastically though!

And just to add its as important to let the turbo cool down after a spirited drive on the way home as well

Why is this, just the standard hot metal cooling down too quickly? What effect would it really have? Do you just drive off turbo for say 10 mins, or when you get to destination, just sit in the car with the engine running for a couple of minutes?

The turbo is oil cooled. As soon as you turn the key off, the oil flow stops and there's nothing to carry away the heat. I usually park up and give it till the end of the song on a normal drive home. Long journeys of epic ragging about 5 minutes.

Not true on this engine, or any modern engine really, pumps continue to pump when the engine is off for the engine to cool correctly

What drives the pump when the engines off? I don't think mines electric, so something would have to still be moving.

I can hear the humming / whirring of the pump doing its job of circulating the oil to cool the turbo down after I’ve turned my engine off.

I think leaving the engine running after a spirited drive so the turbo can cool down is a 1980’s / 1990’s thing, and not necessary with modern turbo charged engines.

Don't hear anything on mine... it's a MK2 though, so no idea on the MK3s.

I don’t think the oil pump keeps pumping after the engine is switched off?

Well call me old fationed but on the Track I will do a cool down lap, And when I come home after a good drive (not distance but using the power) I will always slow down for about 10 - 15 minutes to allow a cool down.

All the guys I have followed in the mapping world have always been very clear warm up cool down.
