ok day 2. driven very sensibly this morning. No warning lights. temp say normal. pull in to work car park and start to hear the noise. its quite loud really.

captured from Cabin side now.

Notes

car driven 30 miles normal speed.
aircon unit is OFF

you will see me switch it on during the video and the noise subsides and then off again and the noise is clearly there again.

some one check there and let me know if this is normal or should i start to worry

lee

Sorry thats not normal, do you still have full power?

just spoke to Clive Atthowe here in Norwich. he is unable to fit me in until next week he thinks the Cam Lobe can cause a knocking noise when they are worn.

yeah but we don't have to go to the dealers to have the soot blown out of our exhausts :)

Naaa, that's only the people that can't drive them properly. They will insist on sitting at 1500RPM attempting to get double figure MPG that starts with a 5 :D

BTW listening to the noise it doesn't sound normal. I think i've heard a noise like that before from a heater air flap motor that's sticking. doesn't sound like an engine noise to me

the heater isnt switched on so would the flap still try to move?

just ordered a Cam Lobe follower and printing the step by step now.

like i said it seems odd that it goes when i press the pedal. MPG isnt affect i got 36.6 driving on cruise control at 60mph. and turbo comes on song nicely.

off to check the oil (no oil light on but never know)

checked oil. everything at a good level

how hard is it to get the engine cover? i can lift mine off with 1 finger although its still warm under there

Lee

I think there are 4 clips. 2 at the back and 2 at the front. The TFSi engine cover has a reputation for being a bugger to get off so it shouldn't be that loose for sure.

could it be engine rock on idle rattling the cover?

god i hope this isnt serious :(

why do i live in teh sticks and not near people with knowledge

Have you tried taking the engine cover off and then putting it back on? I've never looked but there must be a guide on here somewhere. Fitting a CAI means removing the engine cover so if you search for that you should get the info you need.

as per new post looking for the part numbers for the rubber bungs that hold teh cover on.

I might get some more or if i can point the issue to my the cover get a neuspeed filter and be done with the OEM look lol

i dunno are they on constantly. if not then i guess they wont be on when i first start teh car and i can do a check as im doing a runner soon

Just driven home. I don't think it's internal engine related sounds likes something is loose

Engineer mount? Would this nock at idle but under rev go away?
Heat shield?
Engine cover ?

I was doing somemtest and it really does go away With the smallest of touch on throttle

Its very strange

Any one in swaffham Norwich area one want to pop over and have a look? And two has a standard cupra so I can judge if it's down on power ect. Was thinking I wouldn't it's done it since I picked it up

No, only when the engine is hot and there is insufficient airflow over the radiator to cool it normally. I just said that because mine was once making a right racket and I discovered it was the fans.

ok a few cans later (carlsberg) enginer cover removed and investigations underway.

1) 3 of the 4 rubber bungs were still attached to the pins so removed and reinserted in to the correct location.

2) as you look at the enginer there was 3 pipes on teh right hand side going over the exhaust. 2 beefier pipes and one little one that gets joined in just before the bulk head. the little one was VERY close and moved them apart a little.

taken for a test drive and still doing it.

i need some assistance as i think its coming from the exhast area low down. hence why i can hear it in car but not from the top side of the engine.

is there any engine mounts down here?

if i rock the engine when switched off i think i can hear it so im getting closer to the end game

any one think of anything in that lower part of the enginer i can check?

thanks

Lee
