Just been quoted £408 including vat for this. Part plus 4 hours labour. This seems alot to me. Anyone else had this issue? The door doesn't open from inside or out.

Yep, it's a bit of a nightmare. You could save a bit of cash by buying the lock mechanism from a breakers etc. but then you run the risk of it happening again sooner. I had the same issue and it cost £380 ish I think, it's a nightmare trying to get the door open in the first place that's the issue!

If you have alook on this forum you will find tons of information on how to fix this problem, it's always the
The same questions on hear so a lot of members won't answer as there sick of hearing it, plus if you don't have alook no one will help, don't pay £400 look on this forum and you will be able to sort it.

Oh, and that too ;) once the door is open it isn't too bad. Best thing to try at first is get a couple of mates and try operating the inner/outer door handles at the same time whilst using the key button and also the driver's side door release buttons and at some point it usually opens. May require some hand hammering too!

Plus buy a lock off Ebay for £20 rather than over £100 from a dealer. I've replaced all 4 of mine with cheap eBay ones and they work fine.
Definitely try hitting outside of the door while trying to unlock as sometimes it will open. If not you will have to try and get the door lining off and smash the motor off with the door shut!

I have the same issue, you can buy a replacement unit for £20 on eBay or Amazon as said above.

You can strip down the door from inside the car if you remove the rear seats, you will break the door clips, but the are very cheap to replace.

Remove all the door carrier parts, it's worth noting the door lock and window motor/regulator are connected so if you unplug the window motor the door lock won't work..

With everything removed, you will be able to reach the lock and work the leaver through it's motion, hopefully opening the door.

If not then you may need a big hammer and something long and poky to then smash it to bit until it releases the door, where you can then unbolt the rest of it and fit a replacement.... sounds harsh but it's a known method.

I would advise buying a replacement unit before smashing the other one though!

The front door locks are easier to replace than the rears. I had the rears done by a garage with genuine parts which cost £480 and did the fronts myself for £25 a side (ebay) + £8 for a butyl strip.
I have to replace the replacement drivers lock as it is doesnt know when the door is open so doesnt disable the alarm from re-activating, activate the interior light, activate the lights left on alert, light up the door light and even seems to stop the glove box light from working. The only thing it does manage is to lock the door.

Here is the instuctions, you will need the triple square tool and torx before you start.

i bought the genuine lock mech and that cost around £120 fro dave off here i.e sere motors and did it myself, did have a ebay 20 type though but felt it was not that well built, like said above though you need to reseal the inner door panel or door will leak.
