Hi Guys,
I have the dreaded door lock issue with my Altea, rear left door won't lock, I have looked up replacement (part number is w05p0839011), most places state I need a 7 pin, but my lock is an 8 pin, does anyone have any cross-referrence part numbers etc so I can avoid the main dealer....?

Thanks
Paul

All Fixed,
The realisation of these only being available second hand or main dealer spurred me into action, only issue was a bad connection on the locking motor pins inside the unit, rub down with wet n dry, smear of copper grease and all fully functional.
I do admit I had a bit of an advantage in I previously worked for a locking module manufacturer (not VW supply though), seems very similar inside to Japanese OEM locks.:)

Thanks
Paul

Hi Robint,
Internal I'm affraid:blink:

Latch and locking module need to be separated, locking module needs to be opened (carefully as not to loose springs) and motors prised off their pins, they are only push fit and not soldered. Sorry I didn't take any pics, but I can explain further from memory if required.

Thanks
Paul

Hi Dai O,
The locks in this video are different, they look like non european type (no double lock or deadlock function), the ones fitted to uk spec cars will be more complex, I would post a pic but photobucket is not playing ball tonight......

Thanks

hmmmm that looks like a bundle of fun

So you reckon on yours then it was just dirty contacts on the motor supply pins, and a blob of copper grease needed

I am electronic engineer so was hoping it might have been dry joint on the connector or something like that, something my trusty soldering iron might fix, but Push fit hey, hmmmmm :(

So looks like 10 screws or so, might be worth a punt, I see you are South Wales too, I am in Cwmbran

If you do try you need to remove the inspection cover from the latch first, then the two other screws holding the latch in place (they are the 3 largest head screws), latch doesn't separate from the module very easily though, the blue (yellow on other side of car) cam and the white cam stick in the levers on the latch and the springs pop out. You need to prise them apart with a small flat blade screwdriver, somethimes they won't come apart and the springs pop out, the cams only fit together one way though so can easily be fixed, I thinks its another 8 screws in the lock module to get them apart, don't move the workings too much with them apart as the over centre spring will pop out, motors will pop off pins easily, you could try tinning the pins with your soldering iron, I haven't tried that yet.
I've had the mis-fortune of working for a lock manufacturer and I found these locks a bit of a pain. :(

Thanks
Paul

Thanks for your help Paul, stripping one of them doesn't look like fun the faint hearted

Just wonder if you wouldn't passing your expert eye over this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SEAT-ALTE...pe:1.6&hash=item1eaa6a85e1:g:SPQAAOSw4GVYNbLp

There is a dude selling locks on eBay, I am guessing they must be Chinese copies??

Worth a punt do you think, just wondered with you past knowledge you might have some expert advise???

Cheers mate

Hi Dai,
I've just purchased one of these locks for the drivers front I couldn't fix, when I fit I'll let you know how they work.

Thanks
Paul

Hi,
An update on the aftermarket lock units, they are not a straight swap.....

The inside opening cable set length is 20mm shorter at 65mm than the OE lock at 85mm, so a spacer will need to be manufactured to allow them to fit.
Electrically all ok, locked, unlocked etc.

Will see what I can come up with over the next few days.

Thanks
Paul

o buggar,

I don't really know what you mean but it sounds like it isn't going to be easy

have you approached the seller, what did the seller say when told him
can you share the link to the seller / part you got

I was about to buy two off these (passenger front and rear) for a xmas holiday project think it could be on hold

It was the same seller you linked, part number didn't match the one they listed but it did say it fitted my vehicle, I was taking a punt on it fitting.
On the back burner for a while though as my rear brakes have decided to stick on.....

Lock fitted and all working, needed a 20mm spacer for the inside opening cable for my 2010 model, I have noticed that some earlier cars have dofferent cables so these may be staright swap.
Will report back any issues as I find them......hopefully none.

Thanks
