Door locking malfunction

Hey guys, just signed up to this site after buying a SEAT Ibiza 1.4 sport Mk4. Had a few issues with it such as the back windscreen wiper not working, just after we got it fixed we came across another issue.

I have isolated the issue down to the drivers side door, what happens is that when I go to unlock my car the car locks itself after a few seconds with the drivers side door being opened, I know most SEAT's , VW's and Audi's lock the doors if the car has been unlocked and a door isn't opened, yet mine still locks itself. Odd. If I open up the boot or the passengers side door the alarm doesn't rearm itself.

I have looked all across the net and it seems to be the microswitch within the door itself, does anybody know where I could get one of these, or would it be just as good to mend it myself by re-soldering the cracked connections in the microswitch?

Another thing worth mentioning is that the interior lighting doesn't activate when the drivers side door is opened, nor does the buzzer go off when I have the lights on and the door open.

If anyone knows of a solution it would be much appreciated.

As far as I know if the light doesn't come on when the door is open it is due to the micro switch as the car thinks the door is still closed when you've opened it.

Sounds like the microswitch has broken in the door lock mechanism which tells the car the door is open as its broken the car thinks the door hasnt been opened so it locks the car. If headlamp warning doent work either it must be the microswitch.
My car had the same problem. It very common an lots of vw based cars.
You can either put a new lock on the car or if you fancy taking it apart you can fit a new microswitch.

It's easier to get a new lock but they are expensive new you could try a second Hand lock. The Lock has to be removed if you replace the micro switch anyway it's just cheaper to get a micro switch from maplins for a couple of quid but you have to solder it in as it's not a part which was designed to be replaced.

Could it also be cracked solder within the locking module itself?

Very unlikely. The micro switch head that gets pressed by the lock is very small and made of plastic and it wares away that's why is stops working. A new lock or micro switch is the only cure.

One of these from maplin should do it. I haven't fitted one yet but I read on another site these work.

You have to solder the wire on to the correct connector and modify the lock to bolt the switch to the lock.
