thanks stuwbafc

the fitting kit looks fun to instal, the metal cage with that kit does the cage for the headunit slide inside that?

sorry prob a silly question

mm

Yeah. DNX520VBT retail is about 1k[:@] vw charge about 950 inc fitting. not sure what Seat Charge, but you can get a good 150-200 off from David at Seremotors.

I do however prefer the simple look of just a few buttons and s 7" screen

hi this is the link for the fitting kit

you can get the facia in silver......this the stereo i have in.....

will try and get pics up later.........

**NB - in quoting i've had to delete the links (perils of being a newbie)

reigniting an old thread, I know, but does the Clarion unit recommended by you stuwbafc hook up to the existing phone controls on the steering wheel ok? The clarion website notably fails to list any VAG motors on their compatibility...

i'm not 100% sure but i have to phone clarion and i'll ask the question for you if you want ...will try and call them monday......

Dont like to jump on a thread but I didnt want to start a new one. I just got a 55 1.9tdi Reference sport and hate the stereo. Ive started looking at double din ones to replace it and Ive found a couple i like. My only worry is will pretty much any double din fit or is there a certain spec I need to look for.

welcome aboard the thread dkw !

any double din will fit the din spec is a german i think spec so it all has to be a standard size

as regarding spec it really what you want from the unit for example

steering wheel control ?

ipod or mp3 connection

sat nav

etc

you will need a double din

surround dave at sere motors is the man for that as its a proper seat part with the correct clips as opposed to the ebay copies which are more expensive an not genuine

also you will need an adaptor lead to connect the head unit to the car wiring about 30 quid & an aerial power amplifier for the powered aerial
so what ones were you looking at ?

Looking at all kinds at the moment really, just started. Seems to be Clarions or JVC`s are good cheaper optins, Found this JVC KW-XR411E seems decent. Im open to ideas though, never really looked for double dins before. Looking to spend around £300 or so.

yep all good it depends what you want and how you want to listen to your music

i like the ipod as its easy to load up in the house and then just plug it in but i didnt want a front mounted connection as the ipod is best hidden away

& rumour has it the next version of the ipod os will support wifi syncing so if i had an ipod touch i could just leave it in the car and sync it from there , all i need now is an ipod touch !

tbh the kenwood i had i bought from a dealer second hand and that was just in your price range

The main thing I want is a USB port, the stereo I had in my LCR was a Sony with USB connection so Ive got a 16gb USB stick full of music and want to use that again. Cheers for your help fella.

Double Din

I have a pioneer AVH3200BT and certainly reccomend it , great piece of kit . It is running Focal speakers which are awesome as well . The speakers are fitted in mdf rings and not the plastic adapters of ebay . These were made by and fitted by the guy who supplied the speakers . The only problem was with the rear speakers which are 5.25 instead of the 6.5's in the front (I think its 6.5's) as these were fowling on some metal in the inner door , but putting the 5.25's in sorted that . Next up is the amp and sub as finances allow . hope this helps you guys . I am waiting for a double din surround from Dave at sere as when I fitted mine I got duff info and fitted the surround for the sat nav with an adapter surround for the mk5 golf .
