Was on my way to work yesterday and had just finished racing a nice mk3 cupra. Just came to a junction and I completely lost drive. The gearbox dropped out of gear and the D was flashing on the dash. Think iv seen something about this before but just wondered has anyone else had this? I'm guessing probably hit the torque limiter.... anyone able to shed some light on this?

not something iv seen before either. wasn't nice couldn't of happened in a worse place either..... being stationary on the corner just going onto a slip road is the single worst place iv ever been in my life.

I've had the same issue, about a month ago, the d flashes and so does the spanner, after a good 15 secs it went into gear but it would only use 2nd 4th and 6th gear, I restarted it once I got home and it was fine,

SO is it dead dead now or was it a standard issue IT fix (Turn it off, turn it back on ;))

?

Good luck sorting it, is yours standard/mapped? Wouldnt think it would hit torque limiter in such a hard way on standard mapping. The DSG will do things to prevent it overheating ect. It will mimic clutch slip to make you back off a bit according to VW's engine/dsg manual for this car. Interesting stuff.

Wow didint know that, good idea though I suppose! And the car is standard with just under 20k on the clock and it's on a 10 plate, battery in boot .

Oh right. Glad I'm not the only person to have this.
I'm still running standard map with no engine mods.
It wasn't in n the D light was flashing when I was in drive. I tryed to change to sport and it changed to a flashing s.
I put it in park (on a sliproad) and switched it of and on which cured the problem so I could get moving quickly lol.

I know it's only happened once. But i really don't want it to happen again.... Is there a fix that anyone knows of?

I've had it once a 5k miles ago when i had no mods due to hitting the torque limiter on a perfect start but didn't hit the limiter till 5k revs in 2nd gear.

I'm now full stage 2 and not had it again.

I'm not sure but that sounds to me like only one of the clutches was working, as with the DSG one clutch is supposed to select gears 1, 3, 5 & 7 and the other does 2,4,6 and reverse. Maybe there was a fault with clutch 2 and so the mechatronix unit disengaged it temporarily.

Yeah I assumed the same, in all fairness I was giving it some up a slip road, I think I'd be more concerned if it happend when just cruising along, another thing which bothers me is the noise coming from the car when doing below 20mph I think it's the gearbox and it sounds like there's a small metal chain dragging along the floor, if you can imagine the sound, can anyone relate?

It's a dry clutch the noise is normal. Sucks I know.

That sound is considered normal. My 11plate had it since I picked it up with 900miles lol must sound awful driving down the road from outside. When one clutch is engaged the other is "loose" and according to VW knocks around in effect. NOthing to worry about, just an inconvience for passengers that say "whys your car sound like that" though no one has ever mentioined it to me.

Drive past parked cars with windows down, or walls near the street ect you should hear it. That or you have one of two things:

1) a quiet box
2) a very good road surface

This day and age both those are unlikley aha!
