I recently bought a Leon TFSI FR DSG 2007.

After reading of all the problems people have had with the box i am considering getting an aftermaret warranty.

Can anyone recommend a good one? I was thinking maybe AA warranty?

Does anyone know how much it cost to supply and fit the gearbox if the worse did happen??

Loads. Like Loads & Loads. £4000 was the last number I remember seeing.

How has your car been maintained? Do you have detailed evidence? Most aftermarket warranties won't cover you unless it's A1 history

so far full seat dealer history and on 30k. I dont really plan on servicing it at seat in future, maybe a specialist, but if it affects the warranty then i may service at the stealers

Personally, there are recon boxes on ebay for around £5-800 - I'd just make sure that you can afford that.

DSG box itself is very rare to fail if you're doing servicing it at the correct intervals (and don't use launch control ;)). Mechatronics however...

can you describe the problem you're having? ive done a search and come up with this: http://www.dsgproblems.co.uk/index.php?topic=15.0

i have the same problems as him but i always assumed this is how the dsg box worked? i.e. it takes a second or 2 to kick into drive/reverse? hill control doesnt exist either.. tends to roll back for a fair distance - but apart from that it works fine except for one major but very rare issue where it 'stalls' when accelerating hard

The mechatronics problem is noticable when you go to pull away or are in slow moving traffic it is very jerky, almost embarassing, looks as though you are kangarooing :)

Also I get a clunk when changing down at low revs from 3-2

They are my symptoms but it doesn't affect the performance when booting my 280 ponies :)

Get it specifically in writing from warranty direct or forget them - not worth the risk.
