Thought some of you may be interested to see the state of a DMF we removed today from a BKC engined Skoda (okay not a Seat but it's the same set up)

Customer had only been hearing the dreaded noise for a few weeks but being a taxi a few weeks driving is a good few thousand miles.

When we got the box off we found quite a bit of metal filings inside the bellhousing, wasn't untill we removed the DMF we found this.

I've never seen one go like this before so was quite suprised when we removed it (anyone any ideas as to what could have caused it ?? )

All went back together okay but looks like it could have been alot worse.

The old unit was an LUK one and the car has done 214000 miles

Very strange indeed, although if thats the origonal one then im not suprised really, having done 214k miles, using low gears, accelerating in low gears would have taken its toll on that in the end, and looks to have done so, and shaken the **** out of it.

Although i notice that you have a Sachs DMF going back in ;) good choice

Yeah it's the original one, but this car does airport runs so spends all it's time on the motorway

I seem to remember there being a prob with the LUK ones on other models and ETKA lists options for LUK and sachs so i opted for the one i'd never had a prob with ;)

Nobody ever has a problem with the sachs ones matey, even with the mk2 leons, they changed from LUK to sachs ones because of the problems they had with them.....

We have only ever had 3 back in under warranty in the aftermarket. One was out of an alhambra /galaxy iirc, and all the grease had seeped out from inside the DMF, none of the 3 we sent back to Germany for testing got accepted, thats how good Sachs products really are.

Just out of interest, which company do you work for roly???

no cleaned box up, checked bell housing and all was fine

we're guessing it was one of the springs that came from inside the flywheel out, but who knows??

You sending it back under warranty too Skoda then? or is it going in the bin? If its not doing either, drill it open and investigate for yourself.

the vehicle is still within it's 2 year warranty but the customer decided it wasn't worth the hasle trying to get it covered, i may take the drill to it for further investigation :)

i've recently had another one of my customer with a 180k vehicle still in 2 year warranty have a claim rejected due to excessive mileage (not flywheel)
