Need help with a dump valve. I have brought this one without doing any research (stupid I know).

R-Spec twin piston dump valve.

The previous owner took it off his Cupra 1.8t 20V I have to same car so thought it should fit straight on mine. After doing some homework on it, iv realised that its an atmospheric one. Is this still ok to fit on my car as iv read that it has to be a recirculating one. Can the atmospheric ones be converted to a recirculating one.

Thanks

You can fit it, but the car wont run as it should and will probably throw up the engine management light and possibly put you into limp mode. Not worth the hassle imo mate, just get an uprated Forge recirc valve.

Does it have to be a forge one or will any recirculating one be ok?

No it doesn't, but I would personally stick to Forge. You want either the 007 or 008. Check ebay for a second hand one, or Awesome GTI and DPM Performance sell them on here and you get a discount.

MAF?????? Sorry but im really thick when it comes to stuff like this?

ND is correct, but unless you plan on mapping it anytime soon then I wouldn't bother and just get a uprated recirc.

Thanks for the info guys. Think ill just sell the atmospheric one on and buy a proper forge and save all the hassle.

I already have the Engine Management light on as I have fitted a K&N air filter. How do I go about reprogramming the sensor?

I think its because there is more air flowing through and has confused the normal settings. I havn't scanned the car.

MAF sensor and oiled air filter is a bad combination. It’ll screw a new MAF in no time at all.

You need to put a re-circ valve on TBH the OEM one is fine. And a dry air filter.
Then clear the codes and see what comes back

My guess is you have one of two codes bringing the light on.
Either running rich because you have a leak from the BOV, or running lean because the MAF is dead.

I havn't actually fitted the bov. The standard one is still on the car. Do i need to get a modded MAF. If i put a new standard one wont it still do the same fault?

Wont it go into limp mode if the MAF is dead/faulty? It did on my Mk4 Golf. This is all just speculation crawford, you really need to get it scanned for faults to know for sure.

There is no modded MAF, it’s either fitted or not. If choose to remove it, you’ll need it mapping out.

It won’t always go into limp mode, it depends how far out of speck the fuel trim goes. Sometimes it won’t even bring the EML on.

If you currently have a recirculating valve fitted, then you need to get it scanned before doing anything. If the code says it’s lean or rich, then it’s likely that the oil from your filter has fried your MAF. Or you have a boost /vac leak.
