Hi guys wondering if anyone can shed some light on this;

Brought my K1 with it already running the ebay short shifter selector + 42dd bushes. Took it out for a spirited drive last night and found when in high revs theres a delay when changing gear ( as in it dont just slip in i have to wait a few seconds whilst holding it in position before it goes in), also if i try to change too fast it just wont go in. Has anybody had any symptoms like this? Is it a case of readjusting the shifter? Or a gearbox issue?

Much appreciated

Never owned a short shifter, but as they are mechanical in nature, I'm assuming not being able to instantly slot into gear is probably more likely to be gearbox or clutch fault...unfortunately.
How does it go when the cars stationary and engine turned off?
If it works fine, could it not be a clutch issue, or perhaps even as its so blinking cold at present a gearbox oil thing?(is it only from cold, or once the engine is warmed up also)
If you have the same gear selection problem when stationary maybe the short shifters out of alignment somehow or the gearbox has a problem.
..I'm brain dumping here, and no mechanic so don't take my word on anything.

Does it have an uprated clutch?

Some clutches get dragged into the flywheel at high RPM and cause the clutch to bite and make shifting harder.

Readjusting the shifter shouldn´t help anything, but its worth a try as its free.

Could also be worn out syncros, but its not normal to have alot of syncros go bad at once.

Maybe fresh gearoil could also mask it.

Thanks for all the replies;

Car is running a southbend stage 2 clutch and single mass flywheel

Its also running Millers race gearbox oil, gears are fairly notchy when cold but once it warms up they go in alot nicer.

When driving normal it goes into gear nice its only when driving hard and trying to change gear quick it wont go into it its like theres a delay at higher revs.

Hopefully its not the synchro's.

Thanks

Might be a stupid question, but with changing gear quickly are you pressing the clutch in fully?

What rating is the gearbox oil? I used some Millers stuff that was slightly thicker than OEM recommendations and it made the gearbox far too stiff.

Sorry for the late replies guys

Yes as silly as it sounds i have tried it and made sure clutch is fully engaged

I know from cold gears are fairly stiff and do free up once driven for a little while, i might change to normal oil and try from there

Had a look through paperwork cant find what grade has been put into it

Thanks for the replies guys much appreciated

Its the southbend doing it, they are notorious for doing it.

Al Mac hated his... Mine did it once in my LCR and never again.
