Hi All,

I have noticed something that i'm not sure if it's working properly.

while driving when i change to any driving mode like sport or cupra... and then go back to comfort i get "ECO" icon on dash and the Gear number near D disappears ones i let of the accelerator padel.

thing is if i dont touch the driving modes or turn the car off an on again after changing driving modes it doesn't happen.

i wanted to know if it's a normal behavior or i need to do something about it.

video attached, notice when i select sport and back to comfort via driving mode selector at the top right the ECO shows up and the number near D disappears immediately, until i accelerate again.

little clerefication i'm driving in comfort mode then change to sport and back to comfort in the video, when i change to sport mode i let of the acceleration padel so the car start rolling, it was the best way to show the eco situation happenig.

Thanks
(sorry for the poor English in advance)

Normal. If you let off the throttle, it disengages the gear and coasts (notice the revs drop to just below 1,000rpm) - helps with fuel saving and as soon as you touch the accelerator, it will re-engage the gear.

Thanks for the info , it was strange for me become it was doing it only when I got to different Mode then back to comfort. Strange behavior if you ask me, wish I could disable it.

Getting the same odd behaviour on a 73 plate Ateca so have this as a workaround (until the dealer confirms its actually something they can fix)

Scenario is as above; basically switch from Comfort to any profile and back, and the coasting mode will start to happen. Its truly the work of the devil and I'm not sure it actually saves any fuel since compression braking restricts the injectors (I believe)

Anyway, to stop this horror occurring:
  • Use the individual profile with the engine only set to sport
  • Shift the DSG lever down once in individual mode and this will switch it back to Drive but not allow coasting mode/inertia mode.
  • You can shift down again to switch to sport and back as needed, never having coasting mode re-occur

That's normal because you've switched back to the comfort profile, it is not odd behaviour, it is how it is supposed to act.

Comfort - Gearbox will coast either when the throttle is blipped or it recognises an opportunity to coast.
Eco - Gearbox will coast almost every time the throttle is at 0%, i think unless a steep downhill is recognised.

But yes - your solution does avoid it going in to coast if you really find it that irritating.

Thanks - It wouldnt be so bad if Comfort mode exhibited that behaviour all the time (so it was consistent). Odd that it only goes into coasting mode when you switch back to it however...

Mine is in comfort by default and it coasts as/when it wants to or I can trigger it by lightly blipping the throttle when approaching somewhere I need to slow down, no need to change any drive modes. Shouldn’t have to change any drive modes unless obviously you want to avoid it in sport.
