What you might need to consider even more is what happens come MOT time as the DVSA are clamping down on people bypassing emissions systems like this and DPFs.

I think theyre going to concentrate more on the DPF side of things and atm i have no intention of touching the DPF. Egr not being there may well shorten the life of my DPF but im willing to take that risk.

To what end ?

Nail down your goals an go from there , end of the day its a 2l tdi its never going to set the world alight .

As for the EGR , thats easy .Just get a blanking plate made up with some 2mm flat stainless ,use the OEM kit as a template .

I know it isn't going to be as quick as a Cupra, but i'll be more than happy with 200-210bhp from a tdi that can still give me great economy.

You wont get the power without a massive MPG penalty, just get a 1.8 petrol as when your on it there wont be much difference between them .

As for the economy , my Cupra did 37mpg from Midlands to Manchester and back so 150miles the other week

At the weekend i went to London and back and managed bang on 30mpg

Its all down to how you drive the cars

Strange - most peoples experience is that a tuned TDi is still very economical ( 55+ mpg )when cruising like you did with your Cupra.
And even driven like it's been stolen still returns 30+ mpg

Its still a 2l engine with more air and fuel going through it vs the stock application .

I have came from a 2l tdi that was stock and could easily get into mid to high 20s when pressing on , even a few high speed motorway runs would only return mid 30s mpg .

The gap really isnt all that to an equivalent petrol when your pressing on .

Plus well its a diesel

I'd say your previous car either had a fuel leak, weighed 3 tonnes or was the size of a block of flats.

the setup on the EA288 engine has two EGR loops.
I don't think removing or blanking off the EGR will be straight forward.

Would it not be easier to simply buy a 184 for starters ?

No 1.3 tonnes , il admit it wasnt the world's most economical diesel but if your driving "properly" it still needs to use the fuel to make the power .

I work in a powertain department for a living and i have a hand in engine design so i think i should know a thing or two about engines .

I would say you seriously need to learn to drive you have to use all the gears to get good fuel economy not the first three. We have a 150 TDI returns of between 63 mpg and 55 mpg with an average of 58.3 over 41 k and these are actual figures worked out between fill ups not computer figures

I put a bluefin map on my tdi 150 last week as after owning for 6 months i felt it needed a boost in power after driving my vrs tfsi,i get the same economy when driving normally but will use more if booting it all the time but very happy with it so far

Why remove the EGR if it's being forced back in the low-pressure side after the DPF that actually prevents the sooth build up in the engine? It will make your heater matrix warm-up times longer apart from nothing else.

Or can someone tell any other difference on gen EA288 engines?

What are actual differences between those two engines, in regards to basic parts? Apart from tdi 184 having variable timing.

With extra power delivery, you'll need to invest in suspension setup and brake set up as your brakes will fade really quick to enjoy the ride.

So wouldn't be easier to have it just remapped?

This was discussed on one of the VW forums.

By part number - the injectors and the ECU seemed to be the only differences between 150 and 184 EA288 motors

All EA288 motors have VVT

TDI 150 Euro 5 engines do not have variable camshaft for early/late adjustment, only early TDI 184's are euro6... again thanks, VAG

then after all EA888 are euro6 compliant...

As you've suggested they are different turbo's as exhaust ports are different. Wondering what are compression differences on those as TDI 184 will probably run lower compression too.

Its probably just easier to ditch tdi150 and get tdi184 and go from there...

at darksidedevelopent are turbo kits available
