Electric Wing Mirror Knob

Has anyone else had the problem of the Electric Wing Mirror knob Breaking off?

happend to me this morning after i folded up the wing mirrors

phoned my local dealer and the want to charge me 40 quid for the part (no fitting)

Wondered if this should be under warrenty as the car is not even a year old

Just waiting for mine to snap off. It's just too flimsy. Definitely a warranty job IMO.

well i need to unfold the mirrors before i can drive so borrowed a shifter spanner from a mate at work

im going to go to arnold clark since i bought it off them

Yeah the electric mirror knob feels pretty flimsy! I would be digging my heels in on this one and argue that this should be replaced under warranty. Give Seat a call if the dealer refuses to budge.

thanks i managed to get the mirrors down so i can drive legally woop, ill try cowboy clarks first

still annoyed car is 4 months old and its broke , i hoped gettin a new car would be hassle free

Hi all Im new hear but joined because of a broken mirror knob on a 60 plate 1.6 tdi. Dealer said it was a warranty job ,but those thieving so and sos at Seat said it was a wear and tear item and I would have to pay (£18.00).obviously rang them and explained in four letter words what I thought of that and threatened them with trading standards, eventually got it done under warranty, had to wait 8 weeks as Seat had no stock and there were 163 on back order.

So Seat say its wear and tear yet they have 163 mirror adjusters on back order.....

Bit of a smoking gun, there! If Seat have to hold such a large stock to cope with failures, then there is obviously a problem with the component!

Wouldn't the mirrors fold out when you start the car by default. Could be wrong.

Definitely fight to get this fixed i wouldn't expect anything to break on a 6 month old car. Did you use said knob often

my cars 4 months old arnold clark have ordered a part for me so its going to be a few weeks,

the automatic folding mirrors would probably need to be programed into vagcom maybe no idea how to do tht , the key automatically rolls the windows

i see alot of these at the dealership i work at.. they are flimsy and people just knock them off, unfortunately warranty wont pay for them as we cannot claim them as 'defective' but £40 for the part is a joke, they are about £18 something and easy to fit

Every time I twist it (every time I park / pull away ) I cringe because I know it's going to fall off at some point :/

The folding mirrors only work from the switch in the door. AFAIK they cannot be set to fold automatically.

If you look at the broken knob the actual knob is connected to the main shaft by three very very thin plastic legs, it is designed to break otherwise why not fit the knob directly to the shaft.
Ring seat uk if dealer will not agree a warranty claim, and just threaten them with trading standards, with the amount that are breaking Seat cannot afford to have trading standards deem the part unfit for purpose.

Must say that's pretty much the only thing I don't like about my new car. I love the folding mirror function - especially with my tight driveway entrance, but that knob is just ridiculously flimsy.

RECALL and fit proper ones!!

I do know where you are coming from mate, but why stop using a feature that you bought as part of the car because of a flimsy control stalk? If mine breaks I'll accept nothing else than a warranty replacement and would inform Trading Standards and consider suing through the Small Claims Court as in my opinion the part was not of merchantable quality and therefore not fit for the purpose it was intended for. Sale of Goods Act covers this. Once it was replaced I'd start using it again without any problem.

Got a replacement for a failed laptop my partner had. It was almost 8 months past the 1 year warranty, however under the Sale of Goods Act I claimed that the graphics chip was inherently faulty and therefore not fit for purpose. I eventually had to threaten legal action and had to persevere, but after 4 months I got a result. It was well worth it though! Don't let any company palm you off with "not within the scope of the warranty" nonsense. If the item is garbage, then it is up to the supplier to put right the issue.

And as for my partner - well she was VERY grateful for a few days after that! LMAO :wink:

Pretty much the same part is used on fabias, golfs etc iirc how are these getting broken? In operation or by being caught getting out or something?
