Successful day today in finally finding the elusive front end knock on my 64 plate 1.6TDI....... Oil change time, and when I was replacing the engine undertray, I initially thought I had cross threaded one of the tray's side screws. But it was tight on the wheel arch liner. Still a fair bit of vertical movement in the tray though, and I found that the screws holding the complete wheel arch liner above the wheel were nearly 5mm away from being tight, and lifting the whole tray/arch liner up created the knock that's been doing my head in for months. So arch liners tightened up both sides, and no more knocking on the road.
Isn't it great when you finally get to the bottom of a problem, and it doesn't cost a penny to fix? 🤣😊
Worth checking though if anyone has a knock that you just can't find 👍
