The fan has started to switch on my itself with the ignition off and even when the engine is stone cold. The battery drained and I had to get a jump start. Eventually Seat Recovery took me to the dealers and it is under investigation. They say it may not be under warranty. Surely this can't be right. Has anybody had this issue?

Odd which Leon model is it?

Mine goes crazy during summer hot weathers but winter nada!

I take it thats a TFSI engine if so its a common problem, switch your car on, open the bonnet after 30 seconds or so the fans should start to switch on, take a look your rad fan will be blasting and your ac fan (2 fans) for no reason, if this is what you have, then the problem is under your battery, remove your battery and you will see your wiring harness one of those wires will be broken chafed or disconnected from the connecter this wire goes to your rad fans this will be your problem. you can fix it yourself or get someone who can solder a new section of wire in, it will be a cheap fix if you diagnose yourself cost me £100 before i found the problem.

Turns out they are claiming it is water damage to the fusebox and ECU. £650 to fix as they are claiming it has been caused by jet washing. Put it this way before I bought it, it did this but the selling garage claimed it was fixed. They will have to pick up the bill. It is the hassle I could do without.

Tell them they full of s**t and to stop clutching at straws and get the car fixed under manufacturer warranty. Remind them its a fault supposedly previously fixed and clearly hasnt been. Id be wanting words with dealer principal over them trying to take your eyes out

Too many dealers try hiding behind excuses. Had this last year i drove round with an emission light on. Dealer saying machine said no fault. In end i paid 20 quid at kwik fit for them to plug machine in, hey presto fault was there after that i was like bull in china shop when i went dealers with hard evidence

The thing is they have the car in their possession and have proved in the past to say things aren't covered by warranty. Thanks for help though.

I raised a ticket this morning. Customer Service seemed quite understanding, but this was the call handler and not the person who would be handling the case. I've been advised to put repairs on hold until I hear back which could take 3 working days. What a mess!!!

This looks like another story of a terrible Seat dealer experience.
This forums going to be empty soon as everyone's getting fed up of being fobbed off by Seat dealers and Seat UK
3 years warranty from Seat has turned out to be 3 years warranty as long as you pay for the repair.

Back to the problem I'd say the fault has been misdiagnosed and the unprofessional dealership are having a guess at your expense.

Seems the norm with the brand nowadays.

It does. As the law stands, the selling garage will have to look after this as they have admitted it was there before I bought it an were unable to fix it it seems. It will be a struggle as they are blaming each other, but I believe I have the Sale of Goods act on my side.

It gets better. Seat Customer Service are backing the Seat dealer in saying the work isn't covered under warranty. What a complete joke. Up to the garage I bought it off now to arrange for what they want to do next. I'm hoping they can cut a deal while the car is still there and tell them to fix it. Otherwise it will be a bun fight.

Funny how this problem has only happened again since we had heavy rain. Can't tell me that isn't a design issue.

Well that's you been fobbed off by Seat UK I was fobbed off by them last year and Jarre fobbed off last week or so.
Seat UK seem to side with there terrible dealer network.
Seat maybe saving money just now but there customers are disappearing.
Who in the right mind would purchase a Seat when you don't get any backup in warranty.
Dealers skill levels are so low most of the cars aren't diagnosed properly and Seat UK back them.
I definitely won't buy another Seat and I'm bitter as you can tell.
But I hope nobody buys the new mk3 leon and that Seat go bust.
Lets face it they deserve it.
Another terrible service from Seat.

Unfortunately you tend to hear these stories after you buy. I assumed that as Seat were part of the VW group they could be relied upon and that at least you would be treated with respect. Despite the fact I bought an Alfa 147 and had a boat load of problems with the suspension, they always fixed it under warranty no questions asked.

Finally we get a result. The dealer and the local garage agree a deal, the work is finished, we have the car and didn't pay a penny. My gut feeling is that this is a problem with rain water. I am really wondering if this has drainage holes blocked.

I know for a fact that when I first viewed this car that there were a few berries and leaves under each wiper hinge. Does anybody know of there is a drain hole around here or in fact anywhere around the bonnet area?
