Engine Conversion

Hi guys, just a quick question initially. Does anybody know if it is at all possible to put a 2.0T FSi engine from an Audi S3 into a 12 plate Ibiza FR 1.2 TSi? And if it is, what other items would need replacing in order for everything to work together? I am currently in talks with JBS Auto Designs at Chesterfield, who hopefully will be getting back to me with more information shortly. Just thought I would see what other people on here thought aswell. Thanks.

hmm why didnt you just buy a cupra if it was power that you wanted with a car that new. will be cheaper to chop that one in for a quicker car?

Initially i bought it for the sheer fact that i wanted a car that was cheap to tax, run etc. Basically, my financial situation has changed and now I want to do something different. JBS have replied to me and say it is possible to carry it out for me and to make an appointment with their performance director.

Sounds rather interesting but how do the two untis compare in terms of weight?

If I won the lottery I reckon I'd keep my Boc as a experimental project and whack the 5cyl from the RS3 in place of the 1.4tsi :D

Its possible, but i dont think the expense would be worth it, probably better just buying an S3.

The chassis of the 1.4tsi cars are not designed for the 2l t fsi power you could potentially make.....350bhp, the gear box 100% couldnt handle that and then theres the problem of getting a 6 speed dsg to fit. Wheel spin would be savage, and the car is already light at the back, heavy at the front. The extra weight alone would make it a handfull if you were to do some hard driving.

The standard steering rack is weak on these cars, si who has the fabia hybrid mapped by apr did nine trackdays before his rack broke and hence is getting rid.
You would have to look at trying to get suspension and a steering rack replacements aswell.

The ibiza is designed to be lightweight, very good power/weight ratio and quick instant power. Th only advantage of putting the s3 engine in is that it woud have a better power to weight ratio.....usable power on the other hand? not a chance.

I was looking into other egnines to fit over doing a rebuild............3.2l v6, 2.0tfsi,1.8t, 2.0l 16v, the latter being probably the best. Simple, robust, not too heavy, easily 200bhp with intake kit, full exhaust, cams, remap. If you rebuilt the engine before fitting you could get a gas flowed head, throttle bodies etc............220bhp is possible i think. A proper old school no nonsense drivers car. The 1.8t is a stong highly tunable engine but again easily more than the little ibiza could handle

I would just buy an old high milage s3 and spend your money rebuilding the engine and adding performance mods.

As a technical exercise though I would love to see it done, if you could somehow get a 4wd transmission chain fitted it would be a monster in a straight line

Wouldnt surprise me if a 2.0tfsi with normal gearbox (which would be the only option since the 6spd DSG is to big I think) is lighter then the 1.4TSI Twincharger with DSG.

I think the biggest problem will be getting the electronics to work.

6 speed manual would be an option i suppose, i wouldnt want to go back to a manual though.

JBS do an awesome tuning package for r32 too. All depends on your budget etc i

Wow this is good stuff, wasn't expecting this many replies. I have spoken further to Ben at JBS and I have made an appointment to chat further about what i want. Ultimately i want it to be a one-off. That is the only reason why i looked into the 2.0T FSi unit as it has not been done before. Obviously if I have to sacrifice driveability completely I will look at other options such as the 1.8T. Luckily, budget is not an issue, again, this is why i want to experiment. If I wanted a normal every day driver car i would just buy an Audi S3 or a Golf Edition 30. I have owned an Edition 30 before and absolutely loved it but I want something individual! Each to their own eh? And i know there will be issues with putting the power down but after discussing with JBS I will post their thoughts on here. I have been told that there are a range of big brake kits available that can be modified slightly to fit, with bigger wheels. And suspension options are available too. If they are willing to do a 4wd conversion to and think it will be feasible I will definitely consider this. Thanks for all the comments and replies and I will keep updating

the r32 4 wheel drive system would be awesome, depending on price I would even consider this myself in the future over a lsd

prefer the TTRS system.

gen 4 haldex is soo much better then gen 1/2

also why not go TTRS engine and 4wd then just run 500bhp ;) in an ibiza that should be interesting.

options,

1.8t FWD LCR
1.8t - S3 running gear(4wd)
2L tfsi FWD with diff
2.5L TTRS 4wd
3.2 R32 4wd
3.6L R36 passat 4wd from golf(300bhp NA)
honestly there are probably more options but your not fitting a touareg engine to an ibiza ;)
w16 Pheaton
V10 TDI touareg

ive done it in no order, id personally go for the TTRS cos its would be spastic to have 500bhp in a beefa.;) or the 2l can be boosted to 350 without alot of work(saurst/intake/fuel pump/FMIC/remap) and honestly 350 would be fast!

Definitely worth talking to JBS about the TT RS unit. Has anybody on here ever had any work done by them? Don't know anyone personally who has been there but I am under the impression that their work quality and standard is second to none. I have actually visited their premises before and it is pretty top notch! I paid just under £15k for my Ibiza brand new and looking at the price of the A1 Quattro that has been mentioned with the 2.0T FSi at £40k, I reckon I could still do it cheaper. An extra £25k will go a long way.

I dont think I would ever bother going 4wd on a non 4wd car. That is just so much work..

Get a 2.0tfsi or 1.8T, manual gearbox, add an LSD and tada, excellent little car.

i think 4wd on the ibiza would be amazing and if your 100% of going for 4wd and you have a 25k budget, just smash the 2.5l dsg straight in even if you have to mount the engine in the centre of the car, thats if you dont require back seats. possibilities are endless with 25k.

If you're going to basically rip everything out to do this why not just get an accident damaged one?
You'll have yours to sell + the bits off the wrecker?

I've been keeping an eye open for wrecked poverty spec Mk5's for putting in a 2.0TFSi as a weekend project

I wouldn't bother doing it with a car with much value though

i admire the individuality and drive...but to start mucking about with a 12 plate car seems sacrilegious! surely an accident damaged car would be a better option? fully agree with the comments above. either way this would be an amazing project!
