I just got my timing belt replaced and i thought it would be a good idea to drain and replace my coolant.

A new water pump was fitted also and when i got my car back i noticed the engine felt relatively hot compared to normal.

The dial on the dash still displayed 90Deg but i checked my coolant level and it was on the min line.

Next morning I noticed Engine Temp light on dash was beeping and flashing red. I again checked my coolant level and it was way below min level. Looked under the car and there seems to be a leak somewhere.

After running the car a while the light seems to go.

Could this be a problem of loose hose connection after the water pump was replaced??

Any help would great.

Cheers

As above, take is straight back. My guess is the waterpump or a loose/split pipe - not much else it can be - seen a few cheaper 'pattern part' water pumps leak from new on these cars.

Whatever you do, make sure they don't just add in one of those quick fix solutions to stop coolant leaks!

FYI the warning light thing is normal. Coolant expands when heated so the level will rise - enough to turn the low level warning off

Cheers for the response lads.

Took it back to the garage and he had a look and can see no signs of a leak which i thought was strange.

He guessed it might have been an air pocket that popped in the hose that caused the drop in fluid level.

I've topped it up now and probably will just have to keep an eye on it to see it drops now.
