Morning all,
Hope the collective knowledge can help.

TDi 110, the plastic engine cover has a foam underside which after 8+years since the car took to the roads is now quite manky and falling apart.

So can it be replaced, is there anything specific I should ask for and who sells such an item?

Also the engine has done 98k miles, belt have been changed at the correct service intervals and serviced regularly. But there is ticking/tapping noise, that sounds to be emminating from the head of the car. Its worse when its cold and is still noticeabe, albeit less so when the car has warmed up. Its also something i've heard on other cars that are old.

I'm fairly sure the garage I used won't have taken the head cover off to conduct a torque check of the fasteners holding the cam. Could it be this?

A Ticking seems to be normal on a 110 tdi after 100k or so,

i believe it to be related to the fuel pump, but it doesn't seem to cause any issues, the advice to to live with it. mine does it (96K minles)

check the TDI section for more, there's plenty of threads.

also if you find out where to get a cover from id love to know, mine didnt come with one, i figure it might silence it a little bit

my husbad needed new engine cover foam had to buy new top cover from main dealer for £133

thats a ridiculous price! Mine was falling apart, and I have taken it all out. Doesn't make any difference, other than sound, and perhaps to help the car warm up quicker
