Will all due respect it’s an engine cover, not a work of art, so does it really matter what it looks like and whether or not it’s branded? Most of the time it’s never seen - just when lifting the bonnet to carry out regular fluid level checks - and based on what I’ve read on some forums, some owners never even lift the bonnet / check their fluid levels, so never see the engine cover.

Cost efficiencies by using an unbranded cover means that the same cover (or covers - I think there are different versions depending on engine power output) can be used across the various VAG brands.
With the same respect, it is a part of a 43k EUR car that is sold as mid range premium. (A car that is otherwise fantastic to drive btw, don’t get me wrong, I love the little beast). A brand and some quality materials on the engine cover is something that my 2012 Chevy Cruze had at 17k EUR value and it was not even the top version LTZ. It’s not about what an engine cover does but simply about getting your money’s worth in it’s full. And maybe, just maybe, that could help the brand in some way when that customer lifts the bonnet for his friends and they are asking for the dealers’s contact details instead of laughing at the contrast between the car and the..engine cover. We all (customers) love a cost efficient solution otherwise. Cheers!

The picture below is from an early (October 2020) Autocar review of the Formentor which shows the original pre-recall version of the engine cover - also plain black plastic and unbranded (link to Autocar review - https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-revie...st-drives/cupra-formentor-2020-uk-first-drive)

From what I‘ve read and seen on other VAG forums, the revised engine covers are the same style and ‘quality’ as the original version, so the replacement covers aren’t a downgrade compared to the originals. VW also fit the same engine plain black plastic engine cover to a £45k - £50k top of the range performance VW Golf.

My car (a VW) also has an anonymous similar / same quality unbranded plastic engine cover and it doesn’t bother me. Personally speaking, I could live with - and forgive - the absence of a higher quality engine cover in the Formentor, but appreciate that not everyone will share the same viewpoint.

Someone enterprising will produce VW / Cupra / Audi / Seat / Skoda badges that can be attached to enhance the plastic.

I'll post a pic of the new cover after the 13th for your delight and entertainment.

Yes - protection of the engine from dust and dirt, suppression of engine noise and a ‘cleaner’ engine bay appearance.

AFAIK the reason for the engine cover recall was purely functional - there’d been a small number of cases of under bonnet fires caused by the plastic engine cover coming loose from it’s mounting points and making contact with very hot mechanical components under the bonnet. With this in mind, the priority for VAG would have been function over form when designing the revised engine cover to eliminate the potential fire risk in future. I think it was just the means of attaching the cover to the engine block that was redesigned.

When my Formentor 310 went in for a service last week a "47u6" was carried out, which I was told was a check to see if the heat shielding between the engine and bulkhead was fitted correctly.

Mine was fine apparently.

I’ve seen that discussed on some of the VW Golf forums as it’s also a current recall on the mk8 Golf. It’s in addition to the engine cover recall.

Edit; oops! ?. The VW recall is 47U4 so may not be the same as 47U6 for the Formentor but sounds quite similar. 47U4 affects VW Arteon, Passat and Golf - model years 2019-2024. Details of 47U4;

The new one is not the same as the old one (the one pictured) . The new one is of thin solid plastic material with some insulation. The one pictured, the old one, is of thick foamy somewhat flexible material without any additional insulation. This is the one I have on, had to pay for it as I didnt like the nude engine bay with all the lines, wires etc in plain view getting dirty from all the dust and soil coming in the engine bay, and I plan on keeping it like that even if they offer me to install the new one. Its also probably better sound proof than the new one.Only flaw, it should have had the Cupra logo on it. How much would that have cost to VAG???

Engine cover was cancelled, no stock.

I would like hydraulic bood lifters - I stuck a set on my Skoda vrs from Ali Express they were excellent.

During the call to inform me engine cover was out of stock the dealer told me there is a recall for "seat protection" which might require the car to be in for more than a day. He did quote a recall ref number but I don't remember it. Booked for Early April as if they want it for a day I want a courtacy car and that was the next available date.

As to the out of stock engine cover, I got told that they are now fitting it in chassis No. Order or some such roster by age etc.

Ah that might be what he said - It was a bad line I was at Lyme Park out in the sticks. :)
