Engine management light on, caused by lack of oil?

I've got an FR diesel. A while back I had a problem with the engine management light coming on followed by the dpf light. They managed to clear themselves up before I got to the dealer. He told me to bring it in when it happened again.

Well today it came on when I was out and the engine started sounding very 'diesely rattly'. When stopped in traffic I noticed plumes of smoke coming out of the exhaust. It managed to make it home but I'm worried about taking it further.

I checked the oil when I got back (2 months since service, haven't put any in  ) and it seems very low.

Could the oil be causing it? I thought there was a low oil warning light?

Anyway, service department is shut until Tuesday. What to do?

Its the DPF in re cycle mode, had it happen to me several times - just put me foot down and drove through it [did'nt have a dpf light on though??] still make sure you have plenty of oil also - off min level anyway!!

Sure it's not the standard dpf recycle. The car was so clunky and the plumes of smoke out the back were of an old banger proportion. The exhaust was also popping when I revved it when stopped.

I would still take it to the stealers and check but it does not appear to have affected my unit??!!?

Took it to the dealers who put it on the machine.

It's either:

a) The sensor in the DPF

or

b) The DPF :(

No mention of any charges yet but I'm buggered if I'm paying!
