Engine noise problem solved!! - Seat Bulletin available

Sorry to dig up an old thread but is there any update on this issue from anyone?

My recently aquired 1.9tdi leon is sometimes making the noise like a distant police siren at 1.5k to 2k revs. Seems to be louder the harder I accelerate. I could take it back to the place I got it from but it is likely they will fob me off as it was a Ford garage.

Did anyone get any of the SEAT dealers in central Scotland to help?

Cheers.

You could try Arnold Clark at Alexandria Parade (I didn't get anywhere with them but you may) or again Arnold Clark in Linwood (in the Phoenix compound) or Livingston who are on New Edinburgh Road in Uddingston.

Alex,
Cheers for the reply.
So is your car still making the noise or has it got any worse?

Took mine to both Alexandria Parade and Livingston's in Uddingstone, and they said it was fine.

I think mine has got even louder since then!

Im looking into getting a new or refurb turbo, as the sound is getting really annoying, and i doubt id be able to sell the car to someone with the noise it makes.

With that said, there is no power loss or any other problems so far.

Same with mine. No power loss and the turbo is fine but its just annoying....whooooowhoooo whooo......
Looking at the new turbo route too just need to beef up the other stuff to make sure it can withstand the extra power.

Its the money invloved in "beefing up" that scares me! Im trying to keep this one standard and save for my modding for my next motor. But when you need a new clutch and a Turbo refurb, it would just be rude not to beef up while doing so.:p

Simples eh? :p
Of course you can just get a replacement or refurbed one but for that price you might as well pony up for the hybrid hahaa!

Can source a brand new Turbo from my uncle in Dingbros, for 545 inc vat, which is not a bad price compared SEAT. Its just a matter of getting someone to fit it for me. there are also Refurb ones on eBay for about £330 im sure, but with them you have to exchage your old one to them.

Only problem with Hybrid is there doesnt seem to be many garages up this way that seem to do alot of them. Could be more hassle than its worth.

Just order one from Turbo Dynamics or CR Turbos. Then get a tuner or garage to fit it for you and map it.
You see I have done a bit of research ha haha.

Im all about cost cutting, and i was ideally wanting someone to give my current turbo the hybrid treatment!

But anyway, as you can see, ive got a lot of researching to do before i actually do anything!!

Just a quick question about the sound of this noise, do you seem to get it if you tap the accellerator while in gear and then hear it at about just over 1k revs? got a bit of a low pitch sound about there which almost sounds like a bit of a rough engine but when driving about in higher rev's everything sounds normal. I was actually starting to thing something was starting to vibrate against some of the body or something but does it bang in time with the engine.

Not sure if I am much use to you I think you might have something different to mine.

Mine is not low pitched - it is quite high. The best description is the police/ambulance siren in the distance one. It is definately more of a wheeeeeeee than a "normal" turbo whooooooosh. It happens somewhere between 2k and 3k revs but only when foot to the floor. I can hear it in the car if the stereo is off.

My sound can be hear between 1k up to arond 2k rpm. Can hear it when crusing along at about 30mph in 4th gear, and also can be hear when tapping the accelerator in neutral to blip the revs up.

Heres a video i took last summer. You may need to turn the sound up to hear it properly.

Cheers both of you for the above, that's defiantly different to mine so at least cleared that up. Mine needs to go in anyway for something else so I guess they'll have to figure that out themselves instead of me handing it to them on a plate.

My TDI 2.0 litre leon made this noise since I bought it 3 months ago. Its got slightly louder recently and happens throughout gear changes, rev ranges. Before it was less frequent, I don't think there is anything to worry about until you start to lose power, or the white smoke billows from the exhaust. My car has not lost power, still drives well.

I was in a altea 2.0l the other week, it made exactly the same noise. Just something you will have to put up with unless you want to moddify or alter the turbo, the boost pipes etc.
