I'm driving CUPRA, factory recommends Repsol motor oil. Did someone recommends some other brand which will suit better for the CUPRA engine.
Thank you.

I use Castrol Edge. 0-30W

I have used the same in mine and other people have as well.

At my service they used another brand of 0W-30 (that they originally put 10W-40 in). Can't remember what brand it is though would need to look at the top up bottle in the boot.

Seat recommend repsol oils as it is widely used in Spain, unkike the uk.
The engines are aparantly filled with oil prior to arriving at the factory with shell oil (currently) by whoever makes them for vw group.
Seat dealers tend to use Quantum oils (vw group brand) or Castrol edge oils. this was discussed on tdi`s and I suppose it will be the same on the petrol engines.......

Had a look at my top-up at lunch and that's Quantum Longlife.

Originally they put Castrol Megnetec 10w 40 in as "that is what they use for all petrol Leons" even though it is a different spec.

SEAT recommend that the oil must meet of exceed the following VAG specs 501 01, 502 00 or 504 00.

I took my car to the dealer to change the oil and they puted Castrol 5w40, 504 00 .
Is this the correct oil? Some friends are telling me that it`s the wrong oil and it should be a 0w30...Seat garantees that they puted the correct oil...I`m confused!

cheers

alot of people are putting in 0w30 or the like, however 5w40 i believe is what seat recommend.

Many people put in 0w30 in the belief that its therefore exceeding the specification required.

The oil they have put in should therefore be ok.

If im right, the two figures represent the thickness of the oil when cold and then when warm.. its two different measurements, i think based on time taken to pass through a set sized hole. The lower the figure the 'runnier' or faster the oil. Which in theory means the lower the number the less drag on the engine and more efficient running. Lower numbers for the first number may mean better cold protection.

Its not something thats often thought of or discussed, but it is possible to have oil thats 'too runny' and you shouldnt go too far from the manufacturers recommendations really. For example, if its very runny should the oil pump be shifting the oil round faster....? - however of the types of oils on this thread they will be ok.
However its can be subjective, as whats the 'best' oil also depends on conditions, temperature and how the engine is used. If you drive hard then using lower numbered oil may make sense, as would one with good heat resistance.

Yes! I checked the receipt of the dealer. I`m confused, because in the manual says this is diesel oil, but seat says it can be used in diesel and petrol...

Hmmm... That's the same as happend to me.

I don't want to go into too much detail on a public forum, but if you want more info send me a PM.

What is the point in VW making a very efficient engine if they tell the SEAT dealers to put the wrong grade oil in.

You want a 5/30 - 504.00 or 507.00

- As taken from my guide in the MK1 Leon bit

'VW 505.01 - Special engine oil for VW turbodiesel with pump-injector-unit and for the V8 commonrail turbodiesel engines. Meets ACEA B4 SAE 5W-40 spec'

I'd personally moan like buggery :)

I`ve talked to the official Seat in my country and they say that the correct specification for my engine is 504 00. They are going to check if the 505 01 meets the standard specification of the 504 00. If it does there is no problem using this oil...but if doesn`t...well...It`s sad how many ignorants professionals exists in this world...I`ll leave my feedback when the official Seat calls me.

Spill, im interested to know......dont have to tell us any names..

Okay, but before I start I'll point out that the dealer did resolve the issue free of charge, so a plus point to them for this.

When the car had done about 4000 miles checked the oil and it was on the minimum so researched what top up oil to get. The answer that cam back from both SEAT and Castrol was that it needed to meet or exceed the spec I mentioned earlier. Went to Halford bought some Castrol Edge 5W-30 I think it was that met one of those specs, job done.

Took the car for the 10K service and noticed as I was leaving that the topup oil they put in the boot (and sneakily charged for) was Catrol Magnetec 10W-40. Thought they must know what their doing and put the right oil in so just went home.

Later in the evening was checking the invoice and noticed the oil spec was different think it was 505 01 so I checked the top up bottle and that was the same.

Posted a question on this forum and a couple of people said that didn't sound right. Next day rang SEAT first thing and eventually persuaded them to confirm with the technical department if it was right or not.

I then got a voicemail saying that they had checked with the technical department and that was the wrong oil for my car, it would not cause any damage to the engine but the car would need servicing more frequently.

Rang up the dealer and they were adament it was the right oil for my car and after a while saying I was really not happy they checked with SEAT and said they would change the oil free of charge. It has almost got to the point where I needed to go and play the voicemail from SEAT back to them.

Apparently the system they have isn't clear on which oil should be used. I checked in the handbook and that matches what SEAT told me originally.

Official Seat called me and Castrol 5w40 505 01 can be used in Turbodiesel and also Petrol VW engines. It meets the standards of castrol 502 00 for the Tfsi Cupra. So it`s ok to use this oil...I`m more relaxed now! Thanks for all the help guys!!

Cheers
