hi can someone please explain this to me,

can you do it yourself do you have to get a garage to do it, will it affect your warrenty etc etc

finally is it worth it?

Whether it is worth it is dependent on the engine and the cost of the remap.

On a standard turbo car - YES!
On a standard naturally aspirated car (yours) - No

Basically a remap alters the amount of fuel injected into the engine at any given time (along with turbo boost on turbo cars). There is a lot more to it than that but that’s the basics.

The only time remaps are really worth it on naturally aspirated engines is when they have been heavily modified with exhaust, induction and camshafts. For instance on the 106 Gti if you added up-rated cam shafts along with an exhaust, induction kit and manifold and mapped the ECU to suit these modifications you would go from around 120BHP to 160BHP. Mine had all those mod's except the cam's and remap and made 143BHP.

With turbo engines you get much bigger gains for a lot less money. E.g. TDi mk4 cupra from 160BHP to 200BHP from a simple remap.

If you were to get a remap on yours as its stands you’d be lucky to get 4-6BHP extra for £400 odd pounds.

They will void your warranty, BUT most modern remaps ether come with a switch/flash module so the map can be turned off/removed.

Hope that helps.

the 1.4 remaps up to 105bhp (20bhp increase) with a remap from revo. They are offering it as an option in greece. Can't remember the exact price.
