Nice one Phil,

Any noticeable improvement in engine performance with the new MAF, smoother acceleration and the like ?

Going to need a persuasive bit of negotiating to get a dealer to change a part which is not throwing a fault code me feels !

Stu,

I will be picking up the car tonight, so will let you know how it feels tomorrow. As for the dealer, get them to speak to Westerham Garage if they give you any hassle.

I mentioned the fact that several other people had the same problem, so I am sure they would be happy to help.

Mass Air Flow Sensor - tell the ECU how much air is going into the engine, I think!

I´ve checked my car for error-codes today, and nothing wrong was detected :(
Since the MAF change worked fine for you, I think it will do the same for me, but that part is so damn expensive

The computer that reads codes from the car can only detect problems if something is totally broken, so I guess my MAF is slightly broken :D
Anyways, I´ve got better things to spend my money on right now than this.
(Need to remove a spoiler, have some paint-job done and so on)

If everything works fine this summer, and the problem arise again next winter I maybe will take care of it then.

Would be nice to hear if someone else changed their MAF and got rid of the problem too...?

I don't know whether it is because I have been driving a diesel, but it feels like the V5 is now like a rocket!

When speaking to the dealers, they actually put 2 new MAFs on the car as the first one was still doing funny things - the second one seemed to cure the problem.

Rikard - how much is a MAF then, and where exactly is it in the engine bay?

Wait a minute!

The cold start problem is back - maybe it wasn't the MAF. It is definitely better than it was, i.e. start it with no throttle and it doesn't die straight away, but sits around 500rpm. If I then flick the throttle, most of the time it will rev up and then idle nicely at 1000rpm as normal, but sometimes it will pop and die.

Is this doing any damage to my CAT?

Back to the dealers......

Doh !

Should not be causing any problems - damage to a CAT is usually from un-burnt fuel passing through it when hot (hot enough to ignite the unburnt fuel) e.g. when a coilpack fails on an a warm engine.

Just thought I would update you all with the current situation. Apparently Seat technicians are still looking into the problem.

Spoke to the dealer today who says that Seat have got 3 cars in their technical department including a Toledo and a Bora showing the same problems - so at least they have 'working' examples to look at.

My dealer is convinced that it is a software problem, not hardware, but, we will just have to wait and see!

You must have heard something by now? Was it a software problem, or?
Mine seems to work fine now (because of the fine weather), but I´m sure the problem will arise again :(

No, I have heard nothing. My Cordoba is due to go in for a service in a couple of weeks, I'll ask then, but I wouldn't hold your breath!! My V5 is fine as it is warmer weather now, too.

Almost a year has passed; the problem is still the same (ofcourse) :(
I had my car checked for fault codes a couple of weeks ago; the code 17560 turned up. Nothing serious according to the mechanic, but after resetting the code and clearing the indicator the "engine lamp" has now turned on again.

Will check the car today and see if it still is the same code.

Anyways; I think this fault code somehow is related to this problem (starting bad when cold).

Have anyone of you solved your problems yet, by replacing some part?

Guys,

It looks like the cold start problem has finally been fixed. The weather has been suitably cold recently, and I have had no problems whatsoever starting.

Seat still do not recognise this as an official fault, so my garage (Westerham) contacted a VW specialist that had also seen this problem on the Bora V5. They flashed the ECU with the VW code that fixed the problem on the Bora, and hey presto - it seems to have fixed it on the Toledo- HOORAY!!

Shame really, as I have just part ex'd it to get a TDi 130 Alhambra!!
