Engine staying on after key removed!!

I have an '09 plate Leon TSi, which has developed a strange, intermittent problem recently.

When I "turn off" the engine and remove the key, the engine continues to run, with both the handbrake and seatbelt lights illuminated on the dash. The only way I can turn it off is by putting the key back in, and turning it to the on position, and then back to the off position!

It doesn't happen all the time - maybe 1 in 10

I only noticed it when the missus pointed it out one day when I was walking away from the car!

I could understand if the key was still in the ignition, but when removed??

Any thoughts?

Its 5 months old with ~3k on the clock

You have warranty so book it in.

Not heard of this fault before, well I have but only on old carburetor engines. sounds like a strange one, as said maybe the ignition barrel is faulty. Does it run as normal for ever or does it run really lumpy just for a little bit then stop?

Just runs as normal for ever. Its just like I've stopped at lights or something with the handbrake on
