Just wondering if anyone has considered it?

I've got a standard 1.4 16v and in 34,000 miles ive pretty much killed the poor thing, so i might as well turn it into a project...

Was thinking along the lines of a golf 1.4 tsi manual or maybe the 20v turbo?

Did let my mind wander to a rear drive conversion and a v6 or v8 in the front, but thats just silly ;)

Any feedback would be appreciated :p

I'd say not to go 1.4 TSi as the wiring will be a nightmare and I dont think manual would be a possibility.

20V turbo is a good call though!

I'm sure the engine swap will be possible but very expensive as not just the engine will need swapped but the ecu, brakes, gearbox etc etc all need changed/uprated. Interested to hear why you've 'killed' the engine lol?

Lets just say, it was a cheap run around, and its had a hard life, its the only car ive had that ive not really liked, so it got punished haha

Can kinda understand why, the 1.4 85hp engine is laggy and very slow lol. Certainly would be intersting to see somebody do something different on a mk5!

this is something i have been planning for a while, i will eventually get it done but not for at least another 3 years. just need to save the money ect.

I reckon a TSI would be difficult and expensive, but a 1.8T 20v is probably do-able and mechanically isn't a million miles away from the 1.4 16v as they are both the same generation. Someone on uk-mkivs.net did the same swap on a Golf, goes by the name of Chris

Wake me up when your vtec kicks in!! Dont be pathetic, buy a new car or put the vr6 in it

i've got the same 1.4 16v 85bhp engine mine nearly done 10000miles not had any issues at all but i've got to keep this car for as long as i can so in a few years time i might do an engine conversion in mine as i want more power.
