EPC light can't be cleared (following faulty temp sensor)

Hi All,

Just throwing this out there to see if any one can help. SEAT Altea FR TFSI 2007

EPC light came on and then found to have a faulty temp sensor. This was replaced under warranty but had to take it to halfords garage as they are who my warranty firm use. They tried to clear the code using a standard OBD and cleared 1 of them so the engine light went out but now it's not giving any codes but the EPC light stuck on.

they are telling me apparently i"t's some thing to do with the wiring" some where, we've got a specialist on it but he can't seem to find where it is. Now i don't have a VAG com or CAN bus but when i've had it done before it's sorted with out issue.

ANy ideas.. apart from take it to a proper VAG specialist? (want to to try to get halfrauds to do it though so i don't have to pay)

cheers

If they're just using a standard OBD2 reader then it doesn't communicate with all the channels. You need either the dealers to do a diagnostic or somewhere with VCDS. Robin Hood country, sounds like Nottingham is it?

Yep I'm in Nottingham. I tend to use either C&R or autotechz but halfords are the only people appaently with an account for the warranty.

Just picked the car up as i need it and the EPC and engine light are back up. The guy said the "electrician" had been on it but couldn't find the problems. He was just going deeper and deeper but couldn't find the issue.. sounds like BS to me and I think they just couldn't get the "electrician" out on Saturday.. they have asked i bring it back on Monday for them to sort.

I'll give them a bit of time with it and if not I'll give crasher @ C&R a call

just annoying I could only go to Halfrauds

Hmm. I'm going to Nottingham on Monday, but I won't have time to scan your car I'm afraid. I'm going to Mapperley Plains to pick up my new car.

I suggest you spend a few quid and get yourself a VCDS cable, then you can do it yourself.

thanks for the offer mate. would be great to get some one who knows what tey are doing to look at it.

I work just near jct 26 of the M1 which is where the garage is, i used to live out mapperly way but now live in other side of town

Just looking at VCDS cables and software now (lite is basic, then reg fee and but some seem to come with software.. assume it's the free lite unregistered)

For your car, being a canbus system, you'll need the genuine cable and the software is free. Cheapest place for genuine is £250, but it works with every VAG car out there and comes with lifetime upgrades. Don't be fooled into buying a stolen software and aftermarket cable from Ebay, as they're notoriously fickle and can fail at the drop of a hat.

thanks for the heads up.. they claim to be HEX+CAN but lots of things on the web claim to be something they aren't

I'm a Mac user as well so would need to run Parrellels or by a cheap PC

i'd pm you a link to one i'm looking at but still waiting to hit my 10th meaningful post!

in ebay it was as a :
VAG-COM ODBII HEX USB CAN VCDS Diagnostic tool

looks like a ross cable and there is even one with a laptop

Those two actually state in the advert that they're not genuine Ross Tech cables. Basically, they stole the software, cracked the firmware in a genuine cable, and applied a fix to their own kit. You'll never be able to upgrade the software.

So.. after another round of BS from the garage the electrician guy they have in is using Delphi diaogs..

they have managed to clear the light but are getting a internal error of P0601.... apparently they are saying it might need a software upgrade from SEAT.

I think to be honest they have broken some thing on my ECU.. any ideas?

from Ross tech..

Special Notes

When found in 2.0l TFSI (BPY, BWA, BWJ):
Check Engine Control Module Software Version and Update if necessary.
Seat Altea (5P) bzw. Leon (1P), see Action 24S1 (2014557).

or other posts seem to thinks it's a new ECU!

lets hope the warranty covers it either way as it's a fully standard car

had it hooked up to VCDS and VAS PC by a proper garage.... Definite ECU CHECK SUMM issue.

booked in @ seat Derby... lets hope they can update the software to fix it rather than having to have a new ECU

good news... Seat Derby were able to flash and update the firmware so thankfully no need for a new ECU...diags, software upgrade, oil top up, service wash.. £88... can't grumble

I have the same ECU Checksum error pop up, so hopefully Seat can update the ECU to sort this. Will keep you updated.
