I have just discovered that the exhaust heat shield has come adrift on my Ibiza. One side is detached and it is sitting on top of the exhaust back box. There are two studs attached to the body which pass through the heat shield and there should be captive toothed clips which clip over the studs and hold the shield in place. Both of these are missing.

Does anybody know what they are called and whether there is anything available from Halfords etc. to avoid a trip to the dealers? Has anybody else had this happen?

I think that they are called retainers or ???? nuts. Is there a VW or Skoda dealer - or even VW van center nearer you as these will be common parts. You might now need to buy "mud guard" or "repair" washers, or cut up some old tin cans to make some up as you might find that the aluminium heat shield might have erroded at these points due to dissimilar metal problems

Thanks. There is a very good Skoda dealer near me, so I will probably go there and see if their parts man can suggest something suitable.

I have just been to the local Skoda dealer and bought some of the fixing clips which are used on the Fabia. 45p each, so I bought a couple of spares! They look as if they should be a direct replacement, although I haven't tried fitting them yet.
