faded paint

just wondering what can be done to get my yellow seat ibiza cupra back to its original colour all over. The car has faded in places i took it to my local valeter and he said that the car could not be buffed up as he could not get to the paint because of the way the car was originally sprayed, something to do with the lacquer they put on it. he said the only way i would get it sorted was to have a full respray

i have a couple of pics to show you guys
any sugestions would be great

cheers

I hate to say it, if its got clear coat on then there is nothing sort of a respray that can be done about it. I went to see a guy who had taken stickers off his Cupra as he wanted me to machine the faded paint back to the colour where the stickers had come off.

After explaining it wasn't possible, I ended up machining the bonnet to prove my point, he ended up getting it painted :(

Sorry

This is not the first yellow Seat I've heard of suffering from faded paint recently, those pictures show it to be really bad! I haven't seen any other colours do it though.

My ibiza cupra suffers from the same problem.

I'm also consdering a re-spray.

How do i stop this happening again?

Is it the Seat base colour or the clear coat that gives the problem?

Any info appreciated.

I got this same problem on my yellow Cordoba!

I thought it had, had a crash in the past and been badly resprayed but it looks just like the Ibiza at the top  Darn it. oh well on the bright side it's not some dodgey respray

Just had a thought...

Won't T-Cut do the job especially if they do it in yellow. Remember the old Tornado Red Volkswagens that used to fade to a pinky colour, T-Cut used to bring the colour back to all it's glory really well!

Hmmm Anyone shed any light on this from experiences?

I had the same problem with my Ovni LCR. When I bought it a couple of the panels looked very faded next to the rest of the car, so I complained and the dealer said they would sort it.

There is a whole new story that goes inbetween that and the resolution that I wont bore you with, but to cut a long story short it went into a bodyshop to have the faded panels resprayed a few weeks ago.
It took the bodyshop weeks to try and sort it as no matter what they did, they couldn't get a good and even colour match. It turns out it wasn't just the two panels I first thought that had faded, but all of them had faded all over the car, just to different degrees. So by painting the panels to match another panel, meant they would make it totally different to the next one.

In the end they resprayed the entire car from scratch :D It looks like new now, absolutely fantastic! Just a shame the weather is letting it down.....

Nice one dude! Nothing better than a free respray!

Still it shouldn't happen in the first place, especially on cars this new. Guess my car is too old though for SEAT to agree to respray it. It's a 1999 (V)

It won't work like that because the paint you are talking about was called Single Stage, which means it has no clearcoat (laquer) over the top, so when you use an abrasive polish you aer removing the dead top layer of oxidised paint to reveal fresh paint underneath.

On paints like yours the clearcoat seals the colour in, so if UV light has caused the paint to fade underneath it, there is no way you can revive it.
