Can someone confirm I'm not just starting to hear things.

I've had my LCR for the best part of two years and have never noticed the fans coming on except in real hot weather when stationary as you would expect.

Lately though the fans are coming on almost as soon as the car is started and again several times when stopped at lights. Seems to be linked to the climate and dealer has already changed water pump and recently the climate ECU and fan but it still comes on all the time.

I'm sure something is still wrong and am tempted to try another dealer but before I make a :censored: of myself can some other owners just confirm that if they stop at some lights with the climate on auto at say 20c the engine fan doesn't kick in 2 or 3 times before you set off again. It aint that hot mum yet!

cheers

Mine did this recently, dealer said I needed new fans (slow speed fans had failed). They replaced and all seems ok now.

I did notice when broke the fan on most the time, occasionally when in traffic the engine temp raised so keep an eye on that.

After they told me they advised me not to use the aircon until fixed, especially the compressor.

dont know if its at all relevant but i noticed once while fiddling with the fusebox, when the fuse for the fans are removed they run constantly. Just thought it might help...or not.

I have this same problem..... it fires up and the stops about 5 - 10 seconds afterwards? More frequent when AC is on?

Should I get to the dealer while in warranty?

Just read that other thread...

Autoworld have no chance of resolving this one first time.... I think it would help dealers if they came on here and read the information as I seem to know more than them when I take the car for warranty work...! Oh well looks like I will have to get it booked in again.

The fans should come on with the air con, but at slow speed .
I had mine changed under warranty. The technician who looked at it knew straight away and all was changed with no fuss!!

Had the same problem with mine.

As the "slow" fans aren't working, the "fast" ones come on all the time, which are a darn sight noisier.

One thing they can do (I believe) is check the voltages across the fans. They should get nothing across the "slow" fans ('cos they're broken) and a reading across the fast fans........

All changed under warranty. Get it done soon, as they aren't cheap if you were to pay yourself!

high speed fans

My fans come on for a couple of seconds when stationary but i thought this was because the engine runs at a high temp. Ive just timed the frequency with the AC on and they come at fast speed for about 6-8 seconds every 18-20 seconds, but when the AC is off they dont come on, but the temp gauge reads 90 even on hot days and doesn't go up at all. Is this the same problem as you have.

The easiest way to tell is see if they are moving contantly with the aircon on. If they aren't then they are broke. If yours are pulsing they are broken. In the end the pusing high speed fans will kill either the fans completely or the fuse/fusebox and you will have no fans at all. Happened on my mates cupra tdi.

They're still broke. They should spin all the time the air con is on. Get it sorted sooner rather than later. If it's in warranty then it won't cost you. If not you want to get it fixed before it gets more expensive

super cupra R,

As said above, your fans are busted and it's a VERY common fault, the fans coming on straight to full speed will eventually blow the fuse, you need to get them sorted mate!!

Been back to the dealer again today to point out the fans are still pulsing at standstill and no slow speed fan appearing to work at all.

In the dealers own words " it shouldn't be doing that " with ref to the pulsing. Plus he pointed out it was not putting out cold enough air anyway. Didn't seem to know if a fan should be running at slow speed but did admit to knowing of all sorts of problems relating to the AC design carried over from the Mk 4 Golf.

So booked back in for Friday - we wait and see - again

End of warrenty looming so best knock this latest problem on the head. Extended warrenty ? Well thats another thread I'm sure.

On a slightly related note...

I had mine fixed earlier this year under warranty as the slow speed fan was broken. When I got it back it seemed a little noisy but as it had been so long since it worked properly I thought I must have forgotten it was loud before. It also made a strange squeaking noise like a belt slipping when it got turned on (oo-er) but I hoped it was nothing.

Anyway, hot day today, on goes the aircon, but then the car started stuttering when the fans cut in. So I got to work and checked and lo and behold both fans are on, instead of just the 1 small one! I pretty much know this is wrong, but can someone confirm that this shouldn't happen? The engine was operating temp after a short run, the main fan wasn't on prior to me switching on the a/c and went off when I turned it off.

I am getting to the point now where so many niggly little things are going wrong (found mould in the boot last week from a leak, after it took garage 4 attempts to fix the swimming pool in the back footwell) that I can't recommend Seat even though it's a great car. [:@]

Just spoken to my dealer regarding this and they seem to think the fans will come on every minute or so when the air conditioning is on?

I told him the slow fans were not running but he seemed to think it was normal? is it?
