I'm fitting my H&R springs tomorrow. Ive noticed most of the guides Ive seen on the internet say you have to remove the hub nut and remove the outer drive-shaft and ball joint to get the strut out. Is this true, as it will be the first suspension kit Ive fitted than needed the drive-shaft out. Usually there has been enough vertical movement to get the strut out.

Anyone done their own that can shed some light??

Me and a techie fitted mine on sat at work and the fronts are a little tricky.

Rears are literally one bolt just make sure you have some support for the wishbone as I will just collapse.

As for the front, wheel off, caliper off, can leave disk on if you want we did. Drop link off and drive shaft out and steering arm off.

We left the suspension strut in the hub as there sometimes really stubborn. Then the three bolts on the top mount and it should just come down.

It's not hard just make sure everything has been unattached.

No need to touch ball joints or hub nuts when doing these.
The best tip I can give you is disconnect both front anti roll bar links first because if you try and do one side with the link still on the other the driveshaft catches the anti roll bar.
Must have lowered 15 Leon's and on the floor with a jack I've done all 4 corners in 1.5 hours.

Cheers, ive lowered most of my cars and never had to take the driveshafts or ball joints out. I assumed there must have been a clearance issue or something.

My intention was to get the whole front end up and do both sides at once. so if i disconnect both drop links, the lower arms will drop enough to get the struts out of the hubs without disconnecting driveshafts etc? I didn't want to get to this point then have to loosen hub bolts with not wheels on.

If you disconnect both drop links and spread the hub it'll drop enough.
Sometimes I've need a bar through to lever down slightly but I've never needed the hun nut or ball joint touched.

Well,
got the H&Rs fitted. What an absolute nightmare. Think this car must have been dipped in salt water and left, so every bolt possible could seize up solid :censored:

Sits well though, so was nearly worth it

Looks mint mate

I'll let u fit my springs since it was so easy:rolleyes:

Ended up needing 2 new Drop links after they were seized and had to be burnt off. Then trying to get some more space by removing scuttle pannel, the bolt sheared off one of the wiper arms. New O/S wiper assembly on order. Inadvertently given myself a single wiper conversion

Hahahaha ya mad as owt!

Just thought lining up the bolts would be easier when refitting. All my odd sized spanners and sockets that have never been used before have had some action. 18mm ??? And out of all the cars Ive had, its the first where the top mounts use bolts. they usually use bolts up through to the engine bay and a nut on the top.

Anyway, you live and learn as they say
