I have recently purchased and fitted a Conti kit to my LCR which includes..............

Belt,
Tensioner,
Damper

The kit cost £109 from car parts for less, I used my reg to find the correct kit.

I have just gone online to buy a kit for my mates AUM 1.8t Golf Mk4,

The EXACT same kit using his reg costs £97.

The kit is the same and the belt is the same length, Don't understand the price difference
but I thought the info would be useful to those who are changing their belts soon and wanted to save some money.

Unless anyone can confirm that AUMs use different parts I know what I'd be buying next time.

The picture shows the same parts in the kit and the Belts have the same amount of teeth so I see no issue with using the Golf kit and save some £££

not sure, i ordered a cambelt and waterpump kit off ebay for my lcr the other week, when i rang and asked them if the water pump had a metal impeller they said no and refunded me part of the cost and just sent me the belt kit, so i ordered a metal impellered water pump from GSF cheaper than the amount the ebay place refunded me, which meant the whole kit cost less the £100 =)

Where did you get this information?

Quite a few places, I read a thread on Audi-Sport ( I think it was ) where the bearing
failed and the metal impeller cut into the block causing un-repairable damage,

Also read that when the metal ones hits the block it can jam and throw the belt.

There is a fair amount of info on the net giving reasons why the OE pumps are better than metal,

I know not everything is to be believed but there is a reason why Vag designed
their pumps with non metal impellers.

Fair enough on the un-repairable block damage, but the pump would be excessively leaking before the bearings could collapse causing this.
The plastic impeller's can round on their shaft so no damage is viewable but the car will eventually overheat.
I have replaced every vag pump I have done with the metal impeller for piece of mind, its an expensive/time consuming job to do twice.

I've always used OE pumps, The material has been revised which has cured the problem of
it spinning on the shaft apparently, Used plastic in all my cars, even my old crappy 2.0

I did consider metal but was advised by many people that OE is best, I trust the people who
have advised me,

seems we have a difference of opinion as most people ive spoken too recommend metal impellers due to the way the plastic ones wear, and also read stories of them breaking a fin and causes very large issues.

But i think this may end up in one of those threads where a dozen people argue over the same things for page upon page and always end up at a 50/50 difference in opinion lol

i two was under the impression that the metal was best when Amd changed mine they replaced with a revised metal version, but i can also see where your coming from with the revised plastic one only time will tell with those i guess. Either way both will be better for a while than a worn pump.

The pump I have just removed from my LCR was the original pump by the looks of it,
Has VW/Audi stamps on it, There was no issue with it but I replaced as I was doing the Cambelt anyway,

There is a little play in the bearing but other than that the impeller is complete.
