Hello Everyone. I am looking into getting a big brake kit and have spotted two forge kits on their website,

http://www.forgemotorsport.com/content.asp?inc=product&cat=190206&product=FMBKMK5

http://www.forgemotorsport.com/content.asp?inc=product&cat=190206&product=FMSBKMK5

They have a 356mm disk and a 330mm disk. I am currently on 19's but put on my original cupra 18's when I go on track so am wondering if the 356mm disks fit.

I don't know how long these kits have been out for and if they are any good. I tried to find some info on them on this forum and others but havent really found much at all.
If anyone can give me any advice or help I would really appreciate it.

thanks. m.001

I looked into these recently for my Mk1, and found someone who'd run them on an S3.

He said they were incredibly bad. The pads that come with them are rubbish, and they're cheap chinese made callipers with pistons too big for the master cylinder.
So they start off with no feeling whatsoever, and then when they did bite, they were so cheaply made, that the caliper flexed, and locked the wheels up.

I decided to avoid wasting £1200 on them

I seen that review, but it didn;t look like he was really testing them.
The guy I spoke to uses his car on track. So I know its a real test.

I'm fairly sure they're advertised as fully floating discs too. They're not

Speak to AKS Tuning (Alex) he can offer more OEM kits for similar prices.

Im running Brembo 4 pots (Ferrari F40), Focus WRC 2-piece 380mm discs and Porsche 911 pads.

Thanks Andrew and Chambers.

Like I said I was so close to being set on them. From what I could tell they looked like a good piece of kit and at that price a bargain, but the more I look into it the more I have doubts.

Chambers, will you be installing them any time in the near future?

Andrew, I live in the middle east so I was thinking of getting a one brand/make kit to help with the shipping.
We have a local brembo supplier so the easy choice would be to go with them but from what I have heard (how true it is I don't know) is that the disks and pads are expensive to replace.
I really like the VWR kit but it is a lot of money.

Ill definitely have to look into AKS (Alex) to see if he can sort me with anything though.

thanks guys... hopefully we'll get more people posting about this subject.

My review may be biased as I work for forge but here goes.

The pads are not cheap crap they are EBC yellow stuff pads these seem to be perfect from cold unlike some other track/road pads.

I have not had any fade on either of my cars fitted with these brakes.

The callipers are different from the copies - we have made the calliper thinner thus allowing a wider range of wheels to be fitted.

They also come with Hosetechnik stainless braided lines unlike the copies these come with all stainless fittings banjos etc.

The pistons are not to big at all they have about the same overall size as a brembo 4 pot but distribute along the whole of the pad instead of in just 2 places thus giving a beter braking force on the disc.

There is no way these flex unless you don't do the bolts up !!!!

We have used these on our race MK1 and did a whole day around castle combe with not one single issue at all.

They are also being used on many race and track cars.

don't listen to the bad review try them yourself you WILL NOT be disappointed.

Cant speak for how well they work on a mk2 but have them on my mk1 and cant wait to remove them. Regret getting rid of my 330mm setup
Car is on track using them on the 19th and I am genuinely worried

They are inconsistent more than anything, I thought there may have been air in the system but I have it bled 3 times
Pedal travel and braking force seem to move constantly, one time it feels good and good breaking force is applied for pedal movement, next time pedal moves twice as far but less breaking force requiring you to almost pump pedal but then back to original straight after
They don't feel a bity as the previous setup but that could be down to pads

You say that but my friend also purchased them, he had his bled more times than I did by multiple garages. He nearly went to the extreme of replacing the abs unit
Both sets performed the same, he got so fed up with them he just broke his car and moved on

Hello Ronin,

Is the oringinal 330mm kit you are talking about the brembo one? If I am not mistake the MK1 cupras had a brembo kit as standard right?

Yes, it was the standard 4 pot brembo calipers spaced to suit 330mm discs (instead of OE 323mm) I had one of the early sets of Bill's 2 piece setup

ok, thanks.

I wish the mk2 cupra had a standard brembo or equivalent big brake kit.

It is so hard to choose a kit. there are so many conflicting reviews, opinions etc out there for all the different kits.

I know in the mk1s people are starting to make up big brake kits using the brembo 18z 6 pot calipers found on the toureag, q7, etc maybe a route to look into
I'll be getting a setup from AP racing to replace mine

Wow, that will be a powerful setup. not overkill?
I have hear that the AP racing setup is a good one but it is a lot of money.
I am also interested in the VW racing kit. does it fit the mk1?

Im sure mk1 and mk2 offerings vary depending on what tuners etc have been involved on projects/ developments
Mk1's are old hat now, many are going for ergonomics over aesthetics myself included. It doesn't need to look OE+ or stealthy just work well. Wont be long and mine will be more of a weekend and track than daily
AP's aren't cheap but you get what you pay for
Im quite sure lots of the RS calipers are used in more bolts on kits for the mk5 golf platform stuff
