I am quite impressed that the Formentor has done a lap time in sub 8 minutes!

Nürburgring Lap

To put that time into perspective, the following cars have done the lap slower than 8 minutes:

Porsche 911 GT3 (996)
Jaguar XKR-S
Alfa Romeo 4C
Mk8 Golf GTI TCR
Aston Martin DBS
Audi R8 4.2 (2007)
Honda NSX-R (1992)

What do you guys think?

Interesting. Certainly a fast car by any standards, saw one up close for the first time yesterday and its a lot bigger that the pictures portray, again impressive for the size of it.

It's a really bizarre car. Its a little bit of a Tardis... the pictures kind of make it look small, but when you see it, it appears bigger. You look at the roofline and assume that the read headroom will be limited, but once you get in, theres loads of room!

Looks lile a Leon or a Focus in pictures, in real life standing next to it its more like an proper 4x4 size wise, very odd indeed.

Honestly I don't find it that big. When driving around you can notice that a lot of cars are higher, even normal "crossovers".

Biggest difference is the bonnet, the bonnet is very high and makes the car look bigger than it is.

This image goes to show just how low the Formentor actually sits. It's a really odd photo, it looks bigger and smaller at the same time ?

Great photo.

You can see the difference, Formentor has a much higher bonnet so it looks bigger, but after the windshield it has a sloping roof toward the back. Golf on the other hand is a more boxy design with a lower bonnet.

It may be a matter of perspective, like the LMP1 cars look big because their windshields are much smaller than in normal cars (and our mind assumes that the windshield is the same size).

That is crazy! I have always assumed they were huge! I've only ever seen them on TV and never a direct comparison like above.

So what we are saying is... the Formentor is basically an LMP1 car?

Exactly. Looks big but it is not :).

I've been amazed by that photo as well. Your mind is just not used to cars having a 1 person windshield - LMP1 car is effectively a Formula with a windshield and covered wheels. Not a gigantic 5 meter wide car.

I'm really impressed with the Bridge to Gantry time, the driver really knows the ring, hit all the lines just right! Using Michelin Cup 2's would have given him some serious grip. Maybe we should organise a "Ring Trip" when all this Covid is over. I'm sure that some of the former "supercar" owners/leasers on here would show us all the way round the Nordschleife.

I had a similar set up in my cinema room, after having my first two trips to the ring in my RS4 I decided the best way to learn it was using Gran Turismo, a few hundred laps later I knocked 30 seconds off my BTG time only managed 8 minutes BTG after 6 trips out there!
