Formentor VZ has the same engine as VW MK8 GTI & Golf R

The models mentioned have all the Audi developed EA888 engine. Latest version is gen 4. You must look at the engine code to be sure if it is exactly the same version. Cupra Formentor 310 hp, Golf GTI 245 hp or Clubsport 300 hp, Golf R 320 hp or 333 hp, Cupra Leon 300 hp or Leon ST 310 hp. Obviously not the same version in all of these EA888 engines. The differences is not only SW.
300 and 310 cupras, golf gti clubsport, golf R, audi s3 have the same engine with same turbo. The difference is only software.
245 cupras, octavia vrs and golf gti - different turbo, don't know about the engine. It's EA888 gen4 too, but might have weaker head or rods, but probably the same as in 300+ versions, don't see why VW would waste money on two different parts for 55 hp difference.

Yes there are big differences between eg EA888 Golf GTI (normal) and Golf R.
For the gen 3 found on the www
(similar differences expected for gen 4, couldn’t find anything about gen 4):
"For high-performance vehicles, the engineers did some improvements in the design. The engines with code CJX have slightly different cylinder head shape, performance intake camshaft, bigger exhaust valves, reduced compression ration to 9.3:1, new pistons, more productive injectors, and high-pressure fuel pump. The engines are turbocharged by IHI IS38 with the max boost of 1.2 bar (17.4 psi)."
