fr or cupra help me plz

if you had the choise from these 2 cars what would it be ...

same age same milage same spec

fr 200bhp petrol with dsg gearbox

cupra 240bhp manual

i went for the cupra, and got a remap within a week. I just feel that the dsg would be a bit of a gimmick for me, i like to use a real gearbox.

In order of importance:
1) Cupra
2) Manual gearbox. It comes with cruise control so you can still be lazy

Yeah I agree on the price thing, I bought mine from a vw dealer for similar money but with half that mileage.

If i was keeping it standard id probably go for the Fr with DSG but i didnt keep it standard which is why i bought the Cupra.

Iv had both. Bought an fr tfsi which was a year old and it was brilliant but then i wanted more power and wished i had bought the cupra. I couldnt afford the cupra at the time though so that was that. The chance came to get a cupra so i diid and mapped it straight up to 300 bhp, brilliant. I do miss my heated seats though

I would probably echo that if I wanted automatic (and I would like a decent powered car with DSG), but you would need to remember the FR has a lesser interior, lesser suspension, lesser brakes and lesser appearance (albeit only slightly). Having said that, I sold a monster Cupra and have a puny standard Cupra now, and I don't regret not buying the FR with DSG purely because of the extra equipment in the Cupra and the higher power.

If the Cupra was available in DSG it would be better, but VAG put the cap on that so that people would spend out more on the more expensive Golf Ed30 if they really wanted that power with DSG. Speaking about new, you need to spend at least £30k on a VAG car now to have the K04 2.0T engine with DSG (a la Scirocco, TTS and Golf R20T) and I am not prepared to pay £10k on a gearbox.

Arrange to drive them back to back and that will make your decision for you, it did me! There is quite a difference in ride and speed...not forgetting tuneability if you choose that route! I do like dsg but can't help but feel lazy and a bit detached from driving without changing through gears manually....I'll save an automatic for my 'old man' family cruiser!

I was originally in for a golf gti with dsg until I test drove and it didn't do it for me especially for the extra money, so the tuneability and bang for buck of the cupra swayed me toward it, and no regrets for over 15 months now. Saying that tho I could be tempted by the golf r20 dsg, but it's expensive!

Golf r20 would bore you I reckon coming from a tuned Cupra. Too effortless to drive
