FR TDi CR C02 Tax band

Having recently purchased an FR TDi CR I read a few old road tests on the car and noticed they all mentioned that it was 119g/km Co2 so should be in group C road tax at £30 per year.

However my car is in band D at £95 and the V5 registration states 123g/km.

So I looked into things and the Uk Seat website states 119g/km

Is my car in the wrong group?
What group are other people's cars in?

I'm thinking I should contact DVLA and get my car changed to the correct band as my tax is due at the end of the month and I'd much rather pay £30 than £95.

My FR TDI experience is the same, reviews all said 119g/km when I was looking at it, got the V5 and it says 123g/km.

Think I read somewhere that the CO2 got reclassified due to the DPF? 119g/km being perfect unblocked dpf, 123g/km being the more realistic day to day emissions. (though I'm not sure where I read this or whether it was anything other than speculation)

Everywhere official says 123g/km these days anyway so I wouldn't expect the DVLA to give you the cheaper tax band unfortunately.

Let us know if you do follow it up though...

The MY12 brochure I've downloaded from SEAT UK says 123 gm/km. as does my MY11 information downloaded last year.

However last year I also downloaded info. from the German SEAT site. This lists all the diesels as having slightly lower CO2 and slightly lower fuel consumption than UK. The 2.0 FR is quoted as 119 gm/km! All the petrol cars are much the same as UK however. Weird. Is German diesel fuel different I wonder?

The difference between euro cars and UK cars comes from changing the position of the DPF to accommodate right hand drive, and changing position means it is less efficient, which is why the small difference you see on the German website compared to the UK versions.

It is the same with my Ibiza Ecomotive. The european version gives 89g/km CO2 but UK versions produce 92g/km CO2, due to relocating the DPF.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the replies folk's. Interesting to know why the UK model has slightly higher CO2 than the Euro spec cars. Gutted I can't blag it down a tax group though :(

@ Cougar. Check the Seat Uk website, goto Ibiza car configurator and select FR Tdi and it says 119g/km in the mini spec on the engine choice tab.

Surely you could reject the car as that's not what you ordered? (technically :p)

I didn't buy new so probably not. However I would be interested to see if anyone who bought new could challenge this, although I doubt anyone would try and there would almost certainly be some get out clause for SEAT. They usually state that specs can change at any time etc etc so it would be hard to make it stick

The LHD version is 119g/ km co2 so most of the original reports in the UK reported figure, but somehow it gained a few grams in translation to RHD pushing it up to the higher tax band
