Hi everyone,

I share a Leon FR TDI with my other half, bought it a couple of months ago in November, but have a couple of questions about oil.

I have searched the forum on this topic and read the Oil sticky, but I wanted a more specific opinion/answer if I may...

The oil in my Leon was supposedly changed back in September sometime - I bought it in November. It's sounding a bit rough and I'm wondering whether the oil was ever changed at all seeing as VW apparently did the service for free according the previous owner!

Can I use Q8's Formula 5w-30 fully synthetic? This is the oil I use for my Ford Puma with Focus RS engine. It's a Ford spec and also AECA, but the reason I would prefer to use it is because my brother and I buy it in 60 Ltr drums... so 5 litres is about £15.

I can't really see the problem. In my eyes if it's good for a tuned 2.0 ltr petrol, then it should be fine for this?

In addition, the gearbox oil has never been changed (coming up to 70k - 56 plate), surprise surprise.. so is any 75-90w ok for this. Any fully synthetic should be good for a manual box? Opies offer a lot of choice..

Many thanks,

Ben

You need vw 507 00 spec oil with having a dpf. If oil you have meets that grade then be ok to use. Check side of q8 bottle has the details what it meets at sides

Thanks for the replies.

The oil is in a 60ltr drum, so no labels. However, the info is on the Q8 website. It conforms to all Ford Specs and AECA spec (which is listed in the VW book).

I just don't see what's so special about a 507 spec oil? or a DPF engine.

Might just have to ask oil man. He's also on the Ford forums so should be able to advise.

Many thanks,

Ben

Im no expert but im guessing if you use wrong oil you could damage the dpf. There already a big enough pain in the butt as it is

I guess it's not worth risking for the sake of £15 or so.

It may be helpful to find out if that Q8 oil is the stuff that ford use for their diesel engines as they will no doubt have DPFs also.

It's probably still not worth it. I definitely do not have money to waste on expensive parts like the DPF! :)

Thanks
