Had an FR TDI for 18 months now but due to a change in work circumstances it will either:

a) sit in the garage all week and get used just at weekends or

b) will be used for a stop-start commute a few days a week then again at weekends.

It will get decent runs on a weekend but concerned about the DPF issues on the new commute.

My Dad runs a 140 DSG and I love the gear box and think it will be awesome in the petrol.

Would you keep the TDI and just use it on weekends or get the petrol DSG??

Do you think a Seat dealer would do a straight swap.....my FR TDI for an FR DSG?!?!?

Go for the DSG!!!!!!!

And prolly not a straight swop... Ah! If only Noel Edmunds was still on telly on Saturday mornings...

The petrol DSG is fantastic. I had a 24hr test drive in one before I bought the cupra. It was a hard decison. What I really wanted was a cupra dsg!!

Doubt you will get a straight swap for a new one but you will not be dissapointed. Get it remapped and you will have 260bhp.

POLKR,
Sorry to hijack this thread (I have tried and failed to send you a personal email) but I see that you are using an APR remap on a FR petrol.
My only reluctance in using APR (who are nearby) is seeing this on a VAG site:

"A word of very real warning regarding the FSI engines though. Do NOT use any remap from an American/Canadian chip tuner, such as GIAC or APR. Why - because the "stratified" or homogenised fuel mode is completely disabled on ALL north American market cars. Even their standard maps have been problematic, causing fuel wash on the bores. If you have an FSI engine (turbo or non-turbo), only consider a remap from UK or European tuner!

Does TT have a point and what is APR's response?

Have you changed the fuel pump?
Has your mpg got even worse? Mine is 25 to 30 with the standard car.
Is there any risk to the DSG box with increasing the torque? What is your max torque figure?

Many thanks,
beachboy

If you like the DSG in the TDI you'll love it in the petrol

it's dire IMO in the TDI, and bloody amazing in the TFSi

...

Hi Beachboy,

I dont have the car with APR anymore and it was a Mk1 Leon Cupra that had that map with a 1.8T petrol engine not the new 2.0 Tfsi.

My new car which IS the Tfsi has a map from a completely different company. There are however quite a few people on the forum who have GIAC on their cupras with no problems.

I have a standard fuel pump on my car and it is a manual car so torque is not an issue.

The DSG seems to cope with the remapped torque but i would think that a stage 1 remap would be the limit for it,

Thanks anyway...

POLKR,
Thanks for your reply.
I would like to know if anyone else on the forum has heard about this possible problem with the stratified fuel mode being disabled and consequent fuel wash.
I would like to hear APR's official reply to TT's comments.

Hi there, I would for sure go petrol DSG. 1) For the milage you are speaking of you wont get the economy related to the much higher price of diesel. 2) The one thing diesel engines don't like is stop start short trips motoring. As for a straight swop.............who knows!!
