Hum .. when I did it .. I followed some youtube junk. The guy just said .. oh you pull the sides out of the black guide plastic channel.. which seems to be what you are saying too. This will break the plastic holes on the bumper so you rip off the long unsupported part of the rectangular hole. To do it properly is a bit risky, I pulled the bumper forward to increase the gap between the steel wing and bumper, then inserted a very thin small screwdriver up from bottom to unclip the plastic hole from the black plastic frame, you need to do it one at a time, starting from the bottom. Trouble is that it is easy to slip with screwdriver and scratch the paint. The rear bumper has the same setup. The "rip it sideways" method will allow the bumper to go back with the broken bumper and you will be hard pressed to see how it is not being held correctly .. but it is not right. So take care.
