Today I heard a horrible clunking from the driver side of my Ibiza cupra tdi! Looked to find the coil spring snapped in half. I'm guessing the spring is not same as standard so does anyone know where to find correct spring and to replace do I need to take the strut completely off! Thanks guys

Always replace in pairs and as you have the struts off and disassembled, replace the top strut mounts.

Saves headache later down the line!

My tip if your doing it yourself, have a decent set of spring clamps and a lot of heavy duty cable ties,

The spring is an awkward shape and to compress it enough to get the top mount on takes a lot of compression. Because the spring is quite angled clamps tend to slip round which can be bad news if your fingers are nearby!

Start compressing the spring, an use the cable ties as a safety around each coil just in case!

And leave more time for this than you think, it can be a bit of a ball ache!

I agree with all of the above except using cable ties, I bought a second set of spring compressors, I think they were the set of 3-off with metal clips on all the compressors - from Machine Mart. Maybe being my first contact with tapered springs, I was just taking care not to get injured or damaged. I don't think that these struts are like the Passat ones which the rod pulls down as quickly as you compress the spring - though Laser Tools etc supply a clamp to stop that bothering you.

Well yes it's better to get the right kit, cable ties are purely a safety precaution, just in case!
I don't recommend relying on them though!
