Front End Movement

Something doesnt feel right when braking on my LC180. If i stamp on the brakes something from the front end is moves and makes a slight clunking sound, like there is play somewhere.
Anti roll bar bushes were done last year and seem to look ok, Ive had 2 front shocks and springs on the front due to a spring snapping last winter but the problem was there before these were changed so possibly not the shocks. Wheel bearings seem fine as i have give them a good shake and there is no movement.
What other possibilities are they that could cause movement on the front of the car?

Could it be due to a warped disk? i know i had similar movement on my mk4 golf turbo and once i changed the disks and pads it was fine.

I have a similar problem, I get a clunk when i brake hard and one when i pull away quick, thought it was front caliper but just past the mot they tested the suspension and roll bars but couldnt find nothing. It does not do it when driving nice, i must get it sorted though.

could be wishbone bushes starting to brake up,mine done it,looked fine when it was on the ramp,no cracks or perishing, then had sumone drive it next to me slowly and putting brake on and could see the movement and the wheels trying to pull back from the movment.

It could also be a subframe bolt loose. There are four bolts holding the subframe to the car. Which would of had to have been undone to do the arb bushes. Mates car had exactly the same clunking as you describe. Turned out that two of the bolts were only finger tight. Tightened up and the clunk was gone.

We had similar on my wifes mk2 Golf. Turns out it was the wheel bearling at fault, causing the whole hub and disc assembly to move slightly under braking. Good luck finding the cause mate, i hope it's not too severe.

Mint, hows your clunk? from what the lads have been saying i'm thinking its my sub frame as i've had my wish bones changed recently, i'll let you know how i get on. I was also guessing engine mount?

I had this before but was a massive and serious sounding CLUNK like something was hanging off. Eventually I traced it to when I had refitted my wishbones and followed the workshop manual torque and stretch figures.
A good pull with a long armed breaker bar sorted it out.
It was the bolt that goes through the front wishbone rear bush.
Hope this helps

clunking pads is usually only with no retainer on the caliper, and when going back and then forwards - pad movement was my 1st guess too tho. is it just under heavy braking, or gentle braking? does it do it when jus driving?
if the shock has wiggled loose this could explain some clonking........... only a little bit ie at the top strut could result in this.

The clunk only clunks once as if something has moved ie if i brake hard once and it clunks and i dont pull away hard then brake hard again i will not hear the clunk, how ever if i pull away hard and it clunks then when i brake hard it will clunk.

Forgot to mention at MOT station I told them about the noise and asked them to look at it and the could not find nothing, the tested the suspension and brakes on that machine.
