Front passenger wiper won't park properly

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone has some wisdom they can share.
My local garage had broken the linkage when fitting my new springs (it happens) and upon replacing it with a new used one it now won't park properly... Is this normal or is there a secret trick to get it back to normal?

One thing I will add is I did hastily buy a replacement off ebay and didn't check the part numbers and this one is from the newer model (fl) could this be the cause?

Thanks!

Same thing happened to me, but yet to fit the linkage.

Do you know if it's just the scuttle panel that needs to be removed, and can the new linkage and motor be fitted from above the bonnet?

Yep you have to remove the panel next to the windshield to release the scuttle panel. No need to remove the bonnet but the bonnet will need to be up to remove them. It's actually quite straight forward however I was still unable to get the wiper to sit perfectly flush.

Thanks for your reply! So you don't need to access anything underneath the car to remove or fit it?

Nothing at all its literally under where the wiper is, the motor is held in by a couple of torx as is the linkage but they are all just under the scuttle panel

Many thanks mate! Will try to do this as I'm hesitant to take it back to garage who are denying any damage, and wanting to charge more to fit the linkage, which I've had to purchase

That's a bit harsh, the guys I use are always great and were happy to fit it but I just wound up doing it myself. It's a really easy job just take your time the first time (I tried a few times to get the wiper as close to flush as I could)

Try to mark on the motor where the linkage sits and try to line up the new one as best you can

Cheers for that last tip. Trying to source a passenger side linkage is tricky, only found a few on eBay, and some have the bolt already sheared off!
There's loads and loads of driver side ones in comparison.
I hope the model numbers on the linkage don't have to be exactly the same as what they're replacing (someone wrote in the forum that for some reason the driver side stopped working after they fitted the passenger side).
Can't believe dealer prices:
£170 for the ONLY the linkage, without motor.
But will probably have to buy the £4.14 nut from them as it's a left hand thread.

I just bought a linkage and fitted it to my motor, I just searched the part number and got one from Lithuania (via ebay) you may want to use some of the parts from the old one as the cheaper ones aren't as good. I think the linkages don't make a difference if the part numbers don't match?

I managed to get one from a scrapyard, just had it fitted by them.. but now it hits the column on the passenger side of the car! It doesn't stop a little distance away, and then "park" when you turn off the wipers. It's like it's going to the "park" position each time, which is more noticeable on the faster setting.
Tried to move it across on the linkage as far as it goes, but still the same thing.

Is there any adjustment for this on the linkage?

That's the same issue I had but it sits too far away from the pillar...

The only thing I found was to remove the linkage from the motor and turn it slightly then refit, it was alot of trial and error.

Thanks for this reply.
I'll try that later in the week. Someone else had a look at it, and said there might need to be an adjustment on the linkage bars (there's a spline on that too).
I'll let you know if it is that.

Got it sorted! Ended up being that the motor had to be connected on its own only, and allowed to move freely with the wiper signal on. Then the wiper was turned off, and motor unplugged, the linkage attached (without moving the motor spline too much) and fitted into the car.

Maybe the motor needed to do some free moving turns without the linkage stops restricting it.

This sounds like it could well fix my issue too! I know what I'm doing in a bit! Thanks for getting back to me with your resolution and I'm glad you got it sorted

Have you ever checked up on the price at your local SEAT dealership, sometimes you would be surprised, I bought a new link for my older daughter's old early 2002 SEAT Ibiza, that or some of these people selling stuff from Lithuania are charging big bucks and then the delivery is 21+days, I've checked their prices a few times and dismissed them.

Other cheap fix route, if it is just the ball end that has dropped off due to corrosion and wear, many places on ebay and even Halfords sell a retaining clip to add and so keep these ball ends together.
